I suspect people really get confused by discussions versus bids. You can have a discussion where you don’t make an offer but discuss a lot of terms of a deal. Most transfer reporting is atrocious garbage

Claudius especially at this stage of the window. Its one thing when there's a bid Wednesday, by Friday the reliable sources have reported it, and the next bid happens the following week. When its crunch time like this do you really think Edu and those closest to him are briefing the press ever hour or two? And its clear clubs lie to the press to gain leverage too so even the most reliable journos are open to it.

KingslandBarge Just to clarify; I am hoping we go for someone else if Caicedo's going rate is going to be in severe excess, to the extent it will compromise our ability to get other quality players in. Match Liverpool or anyone up to 80 million but beyond that, not sure.

I tend to agree. Especially if our main target is Declan Rice, I feel that we need to bring in someone who is more technical and offers more in attack rather than Caicedo's profile.

Clrnc you'd think so but then the amount of times these players settle for 'assurances' and then act surprised when the club prices them out is mind boggling.

With the pressure cooker of Jan out the way I've gone cool on Caicedo. Brighton will probably want at least what we offered if not more, and in the cold light of day I don't see him being worth that.

Hard to see why Brighton would necessarily sell him this summer when his value might well appreciate even further playing in their ambiguous side, and he's got a kajillion years left on his freshly minted contract.

Is this still a "too many agents" problem or does he just have one rather stupid one now? He sounds like a nice fella in his interview there.

You'd think Brighton's position will be very strong indeed. Perhaps as you say holding firm another year. Can only hope they struck a gentlemen's deal with Moises to grant him his wish this summer. Got a feeling it's going to be a difficult summer of brinkmanship, especially if its going to revolve around Rice and Caicedo.

Clubs never follow through on these 'gentleman's agreements'. It's just something they tell the players to get them to sign.

QuincyAbeyie depends on the player though. Caicedo had a few "days off" in January when we were interested, I think if they had an agreement and they went back on it he'd really kick up. Especially in the face of a massive offer like £70-£80m.

Sure, I notice it tends to be that way, and if thats going to happen in this case, it'll be an intriguing contrast between the seeming sincerity of the player, with that of club business culture.
