Not sure about a call but by the second view, in slow motion, Ramsdale looked like he was going to catch it.

Haven't watched any replays aside from the first time I saw it was an OG fron Kiwior, but on first viewing it looked like Ramsdale flapped at it haaaaaard. Had the opposition headed it in, it most certainly wouldhave been.

However he got there ahead of the nearest man to him and would have caught (possibly fumbled it if you have a pessimistic view of him) the ball had it not been for Kiwior. Hell Gabriel was flying in and would probably have headed it away if it wasn't for Kiwior there.

Reckon it's because no one thinks Kiwior's good enough to worry. I also keep hearing he wants to leave to Italy because he gets few minutes and almost none in his preferred central positions. He's depth as in a warm body, but gets targeted whenever he's on the pitch and doesn't seem to be moving ahead too fast, despite his decent athleticism.

Don't think most fans would be too sorry to see him go if there were a similar figure coming in.

No surprise that Martinelli is looking sharp again now that he has a legit fullback supporting the flank. Also helps that Rice favors the left channel when Jorginho plays!

A run of games has made him much more fit and agile. Surprisingly very quick in acceleration now, used to be his weak point.

Of course he had a torrid time vs tiny fast wingers like Conceicao but overall now feel quite assured him with there as LB in a 4 and LCB in a 3 when we attack

He's fine - still not convinced he's a long-term option at LB. Would be nice to see him get a run-out at CB. Not sure if Arteta is indicating they've earmarked him for LB rather than CB though.

With a wandering Zinchenko at LB and having to watch him cover his vacated space? No thanks.

Big Willie on paper, Timber does what both Zin and Kiwior can do. So that is likely the next evolution of the role. Want to see if he comes back healthy

Like White, I don't think he's physically dominant enough to play CB, and who is when you have the Gabriel's. But he's athletic and stronger than most to play as a wide CB/FB. He has found his role in the team, and it's now his to lose.

He’s the type of profile we should have in our squads. Capable of contributing now, some upside and likely to be sold on for a higher fee if he doesn’t quite break into the first team

Personally think he’s got a role to play - he’s different tool for Arteta to use. Zinchenko should be worried about his place tbh, can’t see any use for him

Mirth will be interesting to see what happens with Zin. He was probably doing the hardest job for Arteta. If you notice until Dubai, the entire team was rigid. Zin was the only player playing out of structure, effectively covering a left back and DM role, and doing both really well. His contributions to shot creation from that role are very high.

He will easily slot into the team ahead of Kiwior once he’s fully fit. The only issue is with Zin, Tierney, Tomi, and Timber, we have a lot of unavailable left backs.

I'd take issue with doing both roles really well. He's never been much more than passable as a left back, but we've had the upside of what he can bring offensively to cover it. I've long advocated for sorting the rest of the midfield and first team out so that we need less reliance on that impact from a defensive position, and it seems as if we've made some positive and lasting adjustments this season to do just that.

It's absolutely suitable for some games and works well when it clicks, but there are games where the risk is just too high. That's not even considering the other issues with Zinchenko like fitness, form and emotional temperament during key moments.

Tam Zinchenko was fine defensively. Part of why I spend a lot of time looking at data is it helps overcome big moments in football. We remember 1 or 2 mistakes and they become an overwhelming narrative. This has happened at times to players like Xhaka and Gabriel. But if you look at Zin’s individual numbers, he’s a credible defender. The team playing with him was already far and away the best defense in Europe.

What was clear though was beyond around 70 minutes, he lost a step and became more vulnerable. His errors have all come late in games. There is nothing that happens early on.

Big moments matter in football. Its a low scoring game and those moments are often decisive.

Qwiss point is it’s literally two moments all season from our most ball dominant player. Folks were very mad at Jorginho for the goal give away earlier this season. These aren’t repeating, consistent things. If they mattered a lot, we wouldn’t have the best defense by far. We are clearly doing much more good most of the time. It’s just not very eye-catching.
