Clrnc I don't think we'd be signing a back up CB in Jan if we had signed Mudryk.
The choices at hand were -
1) Get a generational talent in Mudryk in an area where we are short and hope he can raise the level of the team and provide cover/competition for Saka and Martinelli. While focusing on the floor of the team in the summer wrt to back RB/CB
2) Work on the floor of the team and improve quality gap between starters and back-ups in Jan and then focus on the elite winger in the summer (Diaby, Kvicha, Leao etc).
Clearly we did what we could to get Mudryk and it didn't work out. There were no other options available in terms of elite wingers right now so we activated plan B. And we're strengthening not just for now, but long term as well looking at his age profile.
