I like this guy but I swear it feels he’s constantly 1 step forward one step back his whole Arsenal career so far. Would like him to start successive games and build momentum. He’s much better than Eddie as a number 9 albeit totally different styles.

Wonder what he's like in training. It seemed pretty clear last season he is a much better stylistic replacement for Gabriel Jesus than Eddie and yet Eddie generally gets the nod if available. When you listen to what Arteta was saying at the start of the season about Eddie in training and demanding to be picked, perhaps Leo has not asserted himself in the same way.

When he came on against Sheff Utd he looked like a man possessed. Maybe he was angry his competition (Eddie) scored a hattrick. Then other times, like Fulham at home he plays with a lot less intensity.

He will be 29 in Dec so in his peak of his career, hope he can push on from his last two games.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. He's obviously such a skillful footballer and, personally, when he's on it an absolute joy to watch. But I can't help but think of the impact he made on his debut - fast forward a week to the Everton game and he was Bambi on ice. The difference in his top and bottom levels is pretty stark, though I suppose you could say that about most footballers.

Only successful ones I can think of over the years aside from Trossard are Reyes, Arshavin (for half a season), Adebayor (for his 07/08 season) and Walcott for his longevity.

Clrnc maybe I misremember, but I do remember him having a shocker at WHL in one of his earliest games, and that he struggled with the pace generally at first.

Bring Back Kerrea Gilbert nah, my recollection is the same. Remember thinking it was odd we'd spent so much on a back-up to Gibbs but that he looked markedly inferior at first. But then he broke into the team and got a decent run of games and he started to look really good.

Yeah he wasn't great starting up. I recall having debates of the Monreal vs Gibbs variety in the early days. Once he settled in though, he was a proper boss signing.
