Partey was elite when his body held up and he had Saliba (and even White) helping cover the space around him.

Replacing Xhaka with Rice will only provide Partey even more cover, and it’ll also help Gabriel who had far too much to do alongside Zinchenko and an upfield (sometimes slow to get back) Xhaka.

I think this transfer will be transformational for us and arguably most important English transfer since we signed Sol.

Don't know. I've been sucked into the hype as well and want us to sign him, but honestly I haven't really seen enough of him to know.

Always liked Rice as a player but it was his performances in the World Cup that made me really want him. He can boss things - great mix of physical power and technical ability.

Has that pass where he takes a short back lift, with his foot open so that he gets that nicely brushed draw spin.

Clrnc — that would be a smart move. Musah offers a lot of the same driving dribbles out of midfield. He’s great at getting the ball upfield but certainly will need a defensive partner (Soucek) who is leveling deeper.

Rice is legit.
There are rumours around all of Xhaka, Partey and Jorginho right now. Partey is elite but given his extracurriculars, I’d prefer him to go of the 3, and then bring in Ricedo. But it seems Xhaka has said his goodbyes.

It also raises the question on the exact role each man plays. If we start Odegaard, Rice, Caicedo, can we then have Vieira, Smith, Partey rotating in (no changing wholesale)?

There is one hidden benefit with obtaining Rice. I reckon he's a frontrunner for England captain (too soon of Bellingham). If we get him and it so pans out that he becomes Mr.England, we'll be due a fairer shake with refs. It's one of our biggest obstacles to glory.

If we end up buying both Caicedo and Rice (we will only sign one, imo) and start both, then we're opting for a more defensive 8 alongside the 6, with Odegaard carrying the brunt of the creative burden in midfield. That's fine if we want to structure the midfield that way.

The reason why I'm calling out the overrating is because many spent all season talking about the need to have a more incisive 8 in place of Xhaka, only to then twerk for Rice and Caicedo who aren't that. In an ideal world, Rice replaces Partey and someone like Bellingham replaces Xhaka. Failing Rice, Caicedo is a decent second choice as a 6. Neither of the two are the type of player you want making creative passes at the edge of the box.

London + a years worth of work + having a prominent role + we're a pretty good team ourselves. City have a lot to offer to so you never know, but I'm not worried.

Personal terms have been agreed and aside from United, teams don't generally go and double wages to convince a player to join them instead. In fact City have been known to pull out of deals when competing with United.

We probably aren't but I honestly do believe that these bids are all a bit of a show for the fans as well. They can't be looking to accept the opening offer unless there is a buyout clause.

Still confident he will join us but this is already ridiculously overpriced. We can definitely get Barella for that price point.

He won't join City as he don't want to be another Philips

Also he'd get more playtime here at Arsenal than city, almost definitely a starter with Xhaka gone.

The City interest feels like a red herring to me. The timing and release of that info feels like a drive to hike his price up.
