Claudius I don't know about unfair, I think you may have misread what I was getting at initially.
I was responding to the stated worry that Rice would choose City over us, or that City will blow us out of the water. I believe Rice wants to come to Arsenal come what may and that £100m will persuade West Ham to part with him. Arsenal are of course well within their rights, and responsible, to see whether they can get him for less, but I think West Ham have been very clear about what it will take. Of course, we don't know what conversations have been had behind closed doors, so perhaps there is a lower number that makes sense.
If City get to £100m and we can't, well I guess we've technically been blown out of the water. My view would be that we couldn't afford him, or to divert enough resources in his direction, to begin with.
