It will be Nigeria vs Cote D'Ivoire in the final of the AFCON championship.
Nigeria reaches the final after defeating South Africa on penalties 4-2 in a tense game which ended 1-1 in regulation. Sweet win for two reasons:
1) And don't take it personal if you're South African or of South African descent or inclination (or do, if you like, you know it's true) - they are the most xenophobic nation on the continent. South Africans actually dislike other Africans, and reeeeally hate Nigerians. It's perplexing. Once they identify you as a Nigerian they start to act really weird. Such a sad and insecure bunch. We were one of their foremost and most vocal supporters during their anti-apartheid struggles, and now they treat the Nigerian immigrant population in their nation like the second iteration of baasskap. Are there some non hater South Africans? Probably. But, on the whole, fuck em - dumb fuckers. Cheap shot: They only have a nations cup trophy to their name because for political reasons our government boycotted the competition when it was hosted there.
2) Extra time and Penalties were a nail biter. They had equalized in the 90th minute and had the momentum going into that phase of the game. We had a huge chance in the second half of extras that resulted in one of their defenders taking one for the team/country and receiving a red card for his effort. They were confident as they had just dispatched Cape Verde on penalties in their quarter final game, while we hadn't been in any shootouts in the competition yet. But my eagles were most calm and collected in their spot kick execution, and our goalie saved 2 of theirs.
Hope we go on and win this thing. It's been a while since our last triumph. The Elephants (Cote D'Ivoire) will be out for revenge as we already handed them a defeat in the early group stage games. Should be a fun final! Fly high Eagles!
