Tactics didn't listen to the Terry chat, but this is basically how I feel in terms of what our football is trending towards with the emphasis on duel winning and control. It's effective, but extremely unappealing to me. I used to be a win at all costs type, but now that what the all costs looks like is being crystallized, I will take one win at all costs (league/champions league), but I would be so glad to see the back of Arteta afterwards. It's the main reason I'm a bit hyped about Eze. We desperately need a player to break the mold, a player to bring some joy and spontaneity. Make it a bit of a game of skill and flair, over control, tactics and pace/power again. Icing on the cake so to speak.

I know it's crazy to even type this out, but that's just how I feel.

I remember watching that Chelsea side with disdain.

That's becoming us. And when we eventually come up against a "Barcelona" and "Ronaldinho" does his hip shake and place, I won't hate. I'll appreciate.

Right, win at all costs is all great until you pay those costs for years without even winning. I don't mind our football with Arteta, but there can be no doubt only trophies will fully vindicate the direction we've gone in.

Meatwad playing out from the back isn't some mad high level tactic. In league 1 the press isn't as good as in the PL so its very doable.

Meatwad Playing out the back isn't an aesthetic move, it is simply keeping the ball in your control. When you boot it long you go into a 50/50 situation and the ball could be bouncing around everywhere. From a fans point of view that is more exciting but as a coach your job is based on if you win so surely it makes sense to try and control what you can.

The criticism is wild. Keeping the ball on the ground and holding possession > ball flying back and forth like a ping pong.

passing under pressure isn't easy. i've watched us make a chore out of it enough times to know that. i can just see the plodders in league 1 and 2 trying their best and failing miserably. there are many ways to win a football game, you don't have to try and play like pep. the lower you go the more sacrifices you have to make. a league 1 club can't prioritize a central defender being good on the ball over being good in the air. why can't they just get someone who is good at both? well that player isn't available to them, he's getting gobbled up higher in the food chain.

I think it has been associated with boring and Pep football which it isn't. Pep defo made it mainstream and if it is being done by so many surely there is good reasoning behind that. It is about not giving the ball away cheaply!

You could just as easily argue the opposite. The further down the leagues you go, the less cautious teams are when it comes to pressing. Players tend to fly into challenges and press aggressively, often without much structure. That’s why, weirdly enough, it can feel like you’ve got more time on the ball in the Premier League than you do in a Sunday league match.

At the top level, teams press with discipline. They pick their moments carefully because if they get it wrong, they know they’ll get played through. So instead of charging in, they’ll often hold their shape and cut off passing lanes. Lower down, players just swarm the ball. Not because it’s the smartest thing tactically, but because it often works. The risk of being carved open is smaller than the chance of nicking the ball back.

Meatwad unless you have a big physical advantage pumping it long is just low percentage football. It's not that hard to pass out. I remember Graham Potter had Dunk and Duffy at centre half for Brighton very successfully. They aren't great technical players, he's not a great coach and yet it worked.

I hear Jarred Bowen just Xhaka 'd the west ham fans after they lost against Wolves.

Bet Potter is the first premier league manager to get the sack. Only problem is I don't see who they replace him with to get a tune out of that west ham side. They are truly a shambles. Now kudus is gone they have minimal offensive threat, their midfield is middling and defensively they are all over the place. Relegation beckons I reckon.
