Not too disappointed. That’s the team with the best defence in the league, and they came to defend. That bodes well for us in the long term.

This was a rough, tough game. Lots of credit to Howe. Mourinho would’ve opened a bottle of Chateau Rothschild 82 watching that defensive display. Such was its coordination and endurance. I can’t fault any attacking player on that display yesterday.

Do also remember that we played most of this game with Odegaard, Nketiah, Xhaka, Saka, Gabriel and Saliba unable to make a rash tackle for fear of a being sent off and/or missing the next game.

Don't really get the plaudits for Newcastle's performance. Football is in a sad place if we're looking at it through the lens of Mourinho. Playing with 11 men in and around their own box and time wasting from minute 1 is not impressive. If time wasting and shithousing without reprieve from the ref was a skill, however, you would have to say "well done".

It is what it is. He made Tripper Botman Schar and Burn become the best defence. Rightfully or wrongfully, that's still an impressive feat.

Watching the match yesterday you can see why. Their defensive coordination and compactness is impressive. Of course they had to resort to shithousery once they realised the ref is a weak ass but generally over the 17 games they are solid like hell

Disappointing performance. Although we were clearly the better side, we looked tired and lacked sharpness as Wenger woukd have said. We need a bigger squad to sustain our level over time.

Smith-Rowe and Jesus injuries, coupled with ghost of Nelson definitely impressed a sense of lacking offensive depth last night. Smith-Rowe would have absolutely thrived in two positions; either dealing with the wide-left double marked role giving Martinelli a breather, or LCM in the same pockets Xhaka was taking up between the lines, often in vacant space advanced enough to be touching the box. Given that two of these players mentioned are not reliable and during this lucrative month, I hope we get that deal over the line in 3-5 days before WHL.

One of the prospect qualities I hope to see us hone in the next 12-18 months is the art of suffocation. We slightly relinquished after the 15-20 min mark as some mentioned. The difference was very telling in that first period.

What was that game we had this season(or was it last) where one of our players, I think maybe Saka, was literally held and then lifted up and no penalty was given?

I get people arguing we should have switched him out wide but Newcastle had 2/3 players covering wide areas as Saka/White found out. When you play against a well organised side with everyone behind the ball you need some luck for it to fall to you. We should have scored in the first 15-20 mins, if we did I reckon we would have rolled them over. Their players gave everything, they came for the draw and played their hearts out for it.

Again for subs we had nobody on the bench who was going to make any difference. I don't think our players were bad, they were just up against a super organised side who wasted time and did every little dirty trick in the book to stop us.

Funny how annoyed I feel about the result. As much as I try to rationalise it with perfectly valid arguments, I still want to win every game.

I also can’t remember the last time a team came to the Emirates and started wasting time and holding the ball in the corner to this extent because they were happy with the draw. The team in 3rd place no less.

Bit by bit, we are starting to feel like a big player again.

But you're right. Even if the praise Newcastle is getting for busting a gut, roughing us up, parking the bus and holding onto a fortunate clean sheet is a stretch, it mainly confirms our dominance.

Tet/Arsenal should be prepared to eat up a few fines here and there, but this shit needs to be brought up. How long are we going to take it lying down? If we want to challenge for the title, we can't be competing against refs and VAR on a weekly basis. The odds are already stacked against us as it is.

I think the Newcastle thing is a bit harsh they were in a relegation battle last season and now find themselves in the champions League positions and in decent form overall. I read a tweet saying that from their last 38 games Newcastle have 76 points so they are in pretty good at churning out results.

I can't believe they thought they would necessarily be as high as they are this season. So they are trying to take every point and one point away at arsenal for them is pretty good all things considered.

They also identified how Brighton got blown away especially Martinelli had consistent space and they shut that down and threw the challenge back to us as to how do we overcome that.

As frustrating as it is for us how that played they set up to get their result and it worked and we have to find a way to overcome that in future.

Arteta has mentioned the squad will be needed if we want to navigate the full season so we know that we need to be able to have some other options which we just don't have or don't want to use.
