goon I think we are finding this with Mudryk, players want to play for us again. In recent years you've felt we were relying on our past reputation whereas now we look like a club on the up. The squad is young & vibrant the crowd is behind the team again.

Also with how much more physically demanding the competitions are it is very hard to get through on a slim squad. Somehow Liverpool managed for a bit but that has fallen apart. If we have good options they'll get plenty of game time.

I’m surprised Atletico is being so stubborn about this.

Felix is rotting away on their team, and denying him a loan may further strain the relationship and tarnish his value.

On the other hand, getting him into a well functioning team like Arsenal seems like a great way to ensure they get decent value from his sale. There’s no chance he moves for £100+ but Atletico is seriously running a chance of him dropping into a £60m range.

A very important factor … for me, I mainly don't want to be telling myself "I told you so". Hope the club hurries up and adds a couple of difference makers.

If he’s willing to put in the work I have no doubt Arteta would have him back to his best. There is so much talent there but question marks about his mentality.

Though it is quite soul destroying for a flair player playing for a team like Atletico…

If we can make get an optional buy clause that would be great business. It would obviously take out the risk of being forced to buy the player if it doesn't work out.

The guy is supremely talented though, if his heart is in it I have no doubt he will be great for us.

One thing that strikes me watching Felix highlights is that he seems to have little defined role or responsibility with Atleti. He's doing all this incredible skill, running past players, but there's no team attacking concept that he's working within. He is also in the midfield third far more than you'd expect for a player of his skillset. He would clearly benefit a lot from Artetaball, although I don't quite know about him as a center forward in the Premier League.

Getting an option to buy under £70m would be really appealing. But it seems like United are really interested as well.

I don't think an option to buy that cheap is going to happen. I've also read some weird auto-translated reports saying Atleti are asking for a mandatory buy clause—must be incorrect, as that'd be an awful deal for us.

I don't get these deals - how do they differ from just buying the player outright? How is he 'on loan' if a transfer is agreed and you're paying his wages?

I think 70m mandatory clause to buy would be good and acceptable, Atleti wants to sell for over 100m.

Anything above that would only be optional

Seems a bit unlikely … too easy to game. So really you're just lining up to buy Félix for £85m over the next year or two (depending on payment structure). Negates any benefit of taking him on loan?

Pepe LeFrits to get around FFP so that the cost is lower per year since you are holding on to the player longer.

Atleti asking for 9m loan fee plus 70m mandatory to buy. If we could negotiate that to make them include the loan fee as the 70m fee I would say take it.

Otherwise, negotiate a higher fee like 80m but optional.

Pepe LeFrits I think it can be down to FFP or help with cash flow issues. Am guessing if we qualify for the CL and we have a clause his fees will be offset by increased CL revenue.

Have also heard of mandatory clauses be triggered for example by CL qualification or certain number of games played.

Hey Pep. You do it for a few reasons.

1) FFP - the buying team is at risk of flouting FFP this season if it disburses the amounts consistent with an outright purchase. The loan with obligation defers purchases to a future season. For Arsenal, we would align costs with the extra £60m or so we get from Champions League. Also helpful while we finish our purge and the costs associated with players like Pépé etc to not bear additional costs. Mbappe to PSG was good example of this when it happened

2) Risk sharing - the buy obligation often only becomes active if the player appears in a certain number or percentage of games. This is a get out for the buying club in case they get a dud. Kulusevski has this.

Clrnc I'm pretty sure it doesn't work that way if it's a mandatory buyout clause. I seem to remember that's why PSG made their Mbappe deal mandatory "unless PSG were relegated that season", making it technically not a mandatory deal.

I'd definitely be up for that. He is world class... No difference from buying him outright if it's a mandatory clause, for a player of his quality, he is worth it.
