Clrnc we are better off setting money alight than buying Gyokeres. A few concerns..

he is only coming to the fore at age 25, having been a bit of a journeyman before
he now plays for a Sporting team that was a shot machine before he arrived. Shots have only marginally bumped up since his arrival and he’s only has a small share of shots as the lead striker.
his shots per game is low, about 70-80% lower than what you see for other top strikers, plus his xG per goal is also low.
Layer on top that he had 18 goal on 11 xG from a striker who is typically even for xG throughout his career
Finally, he has a lot of turnovers (6 miscontrols and dispossessions a game), which is high, and won’t translate well to Arteta.

It points to a player who is not intrinsically good, but being elevated by a beastly attack in a 2nd tier league. I wonder what we are drawn to if we are genuinely interested. Cos it looks very risky

All the things you said about Gyokeres...that sounds like Kane after his first big seasons. Everyone thought it was a fluke, he had a crazy difference in xG...Have to say something about him gives off Kane vibes with the way he runs and attacks defenders.

Agree its a huge risk and very well could end up like Bas Dost, but that's the forward market in 2024 now.

Coombs I’ve watched them in Europe - Young Boys and Atalanta. And seen lots of highlight reels. The guy is good but we are way past good.
Top forwards in Portugal completely beast that league. Go look at highlights of Nunez in Portugal versus this guy’s.

Not many would handle him that well, superb defensive performance by Kimmich.

For me it's Nico Williams and Kimmich (I'd also take Douglas Luiz) and then wait to see if there's a market opportunity at striker. I like the look of Gyokeres but his question marks around age, productivity in tha subpar league and lack of production historically do make him pretty risky. I'd be quite happy if we ended up with Williams and Kimmich/Luiz at the end of the summer, with maybe a market opportunity play at Diomande from Sporting.

Bryant but Kane wasn't playing in the 7th best league, he was playing in the best league. Thats a key difference.

Yeah fair enough; almost everything comes with risk given the scarcity of forwards out there. Many people said Gyokeres was pretty amazing for Coventry and carried them to the playoff spot, but chose Sporting over PL teams.

I think if Gyokeres lives up to the potential, he's just peaking later like Vardy and Drogba. I get why Arteta would covet him, the guy has high work rate, athletic, can play anywhere in the final 3rd, and can finish.

What are people's thoughts on the links to Morgan Gibbs-White? I've always liked watching him and he's been one of the few bright spots on that Forest team the last two years. A year or two ago, I would've loved to see him here but now I feel like we have likely outgrown him.

samthegooner he reminds me of ESR a bit, except maybe a bit more robust and more of a forward. I like him a lot, looks like he's ready to step up. Not sure where he'd fit in for us though

samthegooner like his spikey attitude and direct style. He’s technically secure although probably lacks the vavavoom to reach the top

lorddulaarsenal Pepe LeFrits Agree with both of these points. I've always been impressed with him when I've watched Forest. His drive with the ball is very powerful so a more robust ESR is a great call. I think I'd only want to bring him in if we were shifting ESR though (and for the right price).
