My summer window:
Out
Tomiyasu - I like his game, though he is a level below Ben White overall in the right back role, but he would be the first out of the door this summer if I were in charge. You simply can't rely on and factor in to your squad someone whose injury record is so poor. It will cost you when you can least afford it. It always does.
Partey - I think he's peaked (I wouldnt be shocked if the rumours about him being older were true), he's on big money, I don't think he's quite right for the crucial 6 role, and I was seriously disappointed and angered by how little leadership and personality he showed in the final months of the season. To the extent that Jorginho was preferred to him. Even without the other stuff, I'd be trying hard to sell him to the Saudi League or something this summer.
Holding - I like Rob a lot, and if he were happy to be no more than a glorified mascot then I'd keep him around, but he's fundamentally unsuited to the football we are trying to play. His inclusion in the team post-Sporting was an unmitigated disaster. He should go and play for another Premier league team who plays a less demanding type of football.
Xhaka - he's been very good this season, but his technical ability is a severe handicap when we we face better teams and/or fail to establish territorial domiance. We can do better. I think a more technically gifted, all-rounder is the profile of player we should be aiming for. I like the rumours about Smith Rowe being trained for the role. I still think we need to sign someone, especially if Vieira is a no-go as a potential starter next season (and he sure looked like he wasn't up to it this season).
Tierney - a very, very good player. He'll be ace for Newcastle, or whichever team he sings for, but he lacks the touch and passing to excel in this Arsenal team, and he doesn't have the physical make-up to be a serious option at CB. His fitness record is also pretty poor and that's high on my list of considerations with every player this summer. In and out.
Nketiah - a bit like Holding, he's not a bad player, but he's not suited to the football we want to play. The difference between our football with Jesus and then with Nketiah was clear to see. He will fetch a pretty penny, too.
In
Rice - I talked about it in another thread, but for me, techncially and physically, he is THE 6 this team needs. His leadership and will to win is something that every team needs, too. He'd be a phenomenal signing.
Toney - his ban has thrown a bit of a spanner in the works, but I would still sign him (I know being unavailable until January is not really practical with the Champions League to contend with, but he is such a good player, I'd risk it. I don't think he unseats Jesus as the starting striker, but he is exactly the sort of alternative we need. He's Premier League proven, and probably wouldn't mind not being a guaranteed starter. He'd complete our attacking line-up and give us the option of playing Jesus wide. Might be able to buy him for a decent price, too, given his situation. He can start training in September, so he'd be ready to rumble on Jan 1.
I'd like one or two others as well. I like Fresneda and Caicedo, but if we only signed Rice and Toney (or a striker like him because of the ban) I'd be very happy.
