Burnwinter Yeah, we really have no idea. Based on the information available, could be anywhere between "maniac who is desperate to prostitute himself for further moolah no matter the cost to public perceptions concerning his character" and "wunderkind who knowingly made a Faustian bargain with an annoying football club, but having made his £50m is now ready to work pro bono for a decade" …
Another thing is the player was offered this deal by Barca, he didn't hold a gun to their head and make them sign it. So for the new Barca board it is quite cheap for them to come in and try to smear him and force him leave using those kind of tactics. Resorting to those kind of tactics just about sums up Barca though. During the pandemic they mutually agreed to defer the wages so they should honour it.
Burnwinter and we might be able to talk him down to £300k/w à la Havertz.
I've seen a few reliable people talk about Havertz not being on that much. Supposedly around £250k and with all bonuses added on raises above £300k.
But your point is valid, Frenkie is a player who would command around £300k and we are in a position to offer him that. I remember a while ago though that a lot of our salaries are highly incentivised, so the base isn't super high but if they hit their targets they get paid a fair amount. That is defo the way to structure the contracts.
