Clrnc He's looked completely at ease every time I have watched him this season which is so impressive for his first year in the EPL. Hopefully he stays there and develops.

Gurgen Sounds unhygienic … nah I don't disagree in the slightest, just de Jong has been out for two longish stretches due to issues with the same ankle past twelve months

Burnwinter Yeah that's a bit of a worry. But in terms of talent it's not even a choice really.

He doesn't strike me as someone who is in it for the money and he doesn't have multiple villages to feed. If we can persuade him on the football and agree a fee with Barca, I think he would come.

Why on earth did Barcelona randomly decide to pay him more than double what anyone else would have likely paid him? There's some insane corruption or insane stupidity, or likely both, going on at that club.

No way we sign him.

goon they’re a stupid club that liked to throw money around. And now that has ended up with them being basically bankrupt. At the time Frankie and de Ligt were the big catches - Barca wanted to beat City to him. So they paid a massive transfer fee and salary. Then they fell behind on paying the obnoxious salary, increasing it to around £650k currently. They tried to negotiate with him to take a pay cut a year ago, but he knows his worth.

Re: De Jong. Bartolmeu was giving out crazy deals before he was kicked out and FDJ was one of them (I mean they paid Messi 2.6m euros a week!). Given COVID, FDJ deferred his salary so now his wages are insane (base plus the deferred salary they have to pay him) at 720k euros a week. Laporta threatened to sue that his renewal wasn't legal but I guess that didn't materialize.

One of the issues about getting FDJ is that he wants his deferred money or the difference paid as a lump sum. Barca and Utd refused to do so 2 years ago. As Gurgen said, yeah, someone is going to have pay him that money to get him to leave. Should be less now given his contract ends in 2026.

He's been sticking to that big money contract no matter what. I'm not hating him for it but nothing suggests he is going to take the sort of pay cut that would fit in at Arsenal.

If Barca makes it known they want to move him this summer, I'd imagine he would also understand that no one else in the world is going to pay those wages. Hard to imagine a more attractive destination than playing CM next to Rice and Odegaard under Arteta. I hope we don't commit to Guimaraes too early this summer and miss a chance to get Frenkie later in the window. I'd imagine Edu and Arteta are being kept in the know by Barca in terms of their plans though. His availability is definitely a concern but he's a rolls Royce of a first and second phase player and thinking about how he would open up Martinelli's game has got me far too excited on a Wednesday morning.

Was watching a rerun of a Milan game so had the opportunity to watch more of Rafael Leao. The guy is exactly what you want with the ball, and exactly what you don't, off it. Maybe, it is by instruction, and there's no reason why he couldn't subscribe to defensive duties if he moved, but the guy barely moves off the ball in defensive transitions.

That seems like a terrible move for him. He's going to be crying like Vitor Roque. You'd think after we took one of Real Madrid's people for SA scouting we'd get more of these kids.

Qwiss its money he’s owed. Barca should pay him. What happens after is another matter.

Qwiss You try taking money from a Dutchman that he is contractually owed. Philips' last CEO lost 80% of the company's share value but still took his bonus.
