Gurgen nobody can convince me that it would be better to bring on Kieran Tierney for Jorginho in the dying embers of extra time in an FA cup match against Manchester United than an actual striker, even if that striker was Joshua Zirkzee.
Coombs are you referring to the same Zirkzee who was subbed off at 33 minutes against Newcastle last week because he looked so lost and was being booed by his fans? Zirkzee who is 21st percentile on non penalty goals per 90. That Zirkzee?
Claudius Zirkzee not being good is the point of Coombs' post. He's saying even a striker with Zirkzee's (lack of) quality is better to bring on when we want a goal than Tierney.
QuincyAbeyie Tierney is already owner. You’d need to go out and waste money on Zirkzee. Would rather keep Kentish than see Zirkzee near my club
MistaT he'd murder all these crosses too. It annoys me so much that our forwards never get across the front of the centre half.
The rumors about the negotiations with Sesko this summer were that he wanted guarantees on being the starting striker and we didn't give him those guarantees. In hindsight, it definitely feels like a mistake not agreeing to that. I know we had a great run with Havertz at 9 from January through the end of the year last year but clearly the thought was that Sesko would be the striker of the future so you figure out a way to tell him what he wants to hear while still rotating in the beginning of the season as he adapts to a new team/league. I love Arteta and hate the discourse around him online at the moment (lost project, thoughts of sacking him, etc. seem so far off the mark to me) but I do agree with @Gurgen that he likely does need to adapt a bit in his man management to handle some slightly more difficult egos/characters. The best goal scorers are always going to be a bit self centered and selfish. We need that in the team now.
Sesko is shit.
Regardless of what we do at the CF position, I am becoming more and more of a fan of Jamie Gittens. He's the type of LW I think we need opposite Saka - a pure burner who also has the technical ability to break down his man 1v1 and an array of different finishes this year. I'd actually prefer him to Nico Williams, although I wouldn't turn Nico down either, just because of his desire to score goals.
samthegooner Likewise. I wouldn't be averse to taking a punt on Adeyemi as well. He seems to have improved this season vs last and has a lot of the same qualities - perhaps not as technically strong as Bynoe-Gittens but has pace to burn, quite two-footed and decent finisher. Obviously less proven but will be much cheaper as well if we want to go for Nico as the primary LW.
Aina on a free this summer would be great. Arteta scratches his defender itch and we keep powder dry for an attacker (or two or three).
Bernard Woolley Yep Adeyemi is solid as well but his injuries are scaring me. I may be a bit delusional but I think Gittens would already be our first choice winger. He's shown me a lot this year and I'd actually prefer him to Nico Williams, as much as I have waxed poetic about Nico. Love his pace and his finishing this year has really been what has turned my head. Such a variety of different finishes and he's scoring from acute angles as well. Add to it that he's only 20 and would count as homegrown and I won't be surprised if he's my #1 target by the end of the season. The goal he scored yesterday was beautiful.
samthegooner he is very, very interesting, I'll give you that. Nico Williams already fading from memory...

MistaT Oh I’m 100% reminiscing about Giroud.
I like Giroud but he had a goal-scoring drought far longer than Kai now, with Alexis, Rambo and Ozil in the same team.
banduan he'd score more in this team. Its a better team.
banduan — true, but Giroud also enabled those players far more than Kai does our current crop.
Kai may press better, but he’s never developed a partnership with Martinelli, and I don’t think he’s been instrumental to what Saka/Odegaard produce.
Qwiss he would score a lot of headers , so good in the air
MistaT Giroud was great back to goal at just laying the ball off to an on running mid.
Nusa. Better than Williams.
Kel Varnsen Gittens is less than a year older than Nusa - he's the one we need to be in for. I worry about Nusa's injury history with the failed medical at Brentford that showed loose cartilage and back issues that were going to need to be monitored throughout his career. Ideally those will resolve with him getting older but that definitely is a red flag to me.
