From his side, the new contract would have no effect on whether the club had extra leverage on him about selling him this summer vs January vs next January etc as it was a 1 year extension on an already pretty long deal. He just managed to get an extra bump on his salary for the last 6 or 7 months.
Had he done a Kane of Zaha by signing a new contract in his last year or 18 months then yeah, I'd agree. But he had at keast 3 or 4 years left on his original contract.
