Spending £600m on transfer fees in 6 months is unprecedented even for the nation state clubs, beyond anything City or PSG have ever done (and both of those clubs have faced sanctions).
The long contracts might get them out of jail (though it’s hard to see how right now) as far as FFP goes, but it’s going to cripple them moving forward especially with UEFA tightening the rules to limit amortisation to 5 years again.
I’m genuinely amazed anyone here is justifying it, thinks it’s normal or a good idea. There is a reason why nobody else is doing it, not City, PSG nor Newcastle.
Boehly is arrogant. This is a guy who’s come in and appointed himself sporting director and thinks he can change the game. People like this can sometimes be generational thinkers, but more often than not they’re buffoons. He’s assumed the transfers will work out, he’s assumed they’ll get back in the top four and challenge for trophies. It hasn’t even occurred to him that it won’t.
