Napoli's greed is more insane. They changed their terms with Al Ahli last second when everything agreed, only to fail to sell him and then not register him in their squad.

QuincyAbeyie I wasn't aware of that, I thought he was holding out for Chelsea to make a mega money offer and when that didn't materialise it was too late. Think that Saudi club decided to move on and sign Toney instead.

Another waste of a career, he's broken into the England squad and could probably move to most PL clubs but decides to follow the money. On the other hand I do get it, footballers have short careers and Toney started off late compared to many. He's 28 so probably sees this as his chance to get that last big contract. If he had been on PL money for the past 7/8 years he might have had a different outlook on things.

Supposedly on £400k rising up to £500k a week and that is all tax free money. He'll probably make more in a year in Saudi then he has in his entire career. From a sporting point of view the wrong choice but that is a lot of money he is being offered. I doubt any other club in Europe would pay him much more than £150k and after tax he'd have around £80k.

Let's be honest, he wasn't going to be winning much staying in the PL anyways. It's not like he was going to City, Arsenal, Liverpool or any of the big European teams. Playing with Chelsea won't get you much glory these days either, nor will playing with England in all likelihood.

Yeah read he was on £40k a week which is a good championship wage but a low PL wage. Especially when you consider the numbers he put up.

He was probably reluctant to sign a new deal as he wanted to run this contract down to secure a move.

For someone of Toney level that is a no brainer move. No downsides for him at all.

Yeah. Any career Toney could hope to have at a top club is pretty limited at 28 and will likely be a squad role. Might as well make bank to fund his gambling.

Toney's one of those guys who's always going to be a bit of an outsider.

Reminds me of Matt Le Tissier who was also a bit of an ego who played for a small club, had a few issues with gambling (including trying to fix at least one spread bet, by his own account) and could work wonders with a dead ball.
