Its either we prefer Merino (which is unlikely given how long we have pursued Zubimendi)

We simply can't afford him (which is far more likely)

Who knows, I think we tried hard for him last summer and there were some links very early in the window and it was reported he wanted to move to R.Madrid because his idol Xabi Alonso is supposedly going to become their coach next summer. From then on it has been very quiet around him, to be fair other clubs like Bayern and Barca were supposedly interested and nothing happened there either. Barca have been interested in for a long time, Xavi was a big fan of him.

Still think we should make a hard push for Frenkie, he's always been my No.1 choice. What is going to be interesting now is whether Sociedad will be happy losing Merino and Zubimendi in the same window....

Asterix that's a good point. There are players that just adore Liverpool and their fans. Not all that strange losing players pitch to them.

But also a good point that Sociedad won't want to lose both in the same window. We need to close the deal ASAP.

Bit off this Zubimendi malarkey. People saying we should go back in for him, but I reckon that'd mean undergoing paying £300k per week and the fee resulting from a bidding war for a guy who might not even pan out.

I just hope this doesn't impact the Merino deal. Sociedad becoming desperate not to lose both in the same window and convincing him to stay would be really annoying.
