A lot of big clubs finding out it is a tough transfer market, maybe things will heat up towards the end of the window but at the moment there aren't really that many top quality options.

Gunner89 Yup those guys have distorted the market and created imo unrealistic expectations. Those were desperate clubs trying to get the player no matter what the price.

Although if in the market there aren't many players of interest then it makes sense if you have a player in demand in that context you jack the price up. Nobody is getting fair value in this environment anyway your overpaying whatever you do.

there's definitely going to be a bump in prices compared to last year

But contrast rogers for 100m is the inflation and rogers for 117m is overpaying

Fernandes for 65m would be fine with inflation, 85 is overpaying

Gunner89 that's fine but also means you can end up missing out on your targets which by the nature of where we are at as a club there aren't going to be as many of them around that we would want.

Right, but the rumored buyers are Saudi and City ownership is Emirati. It's not "the same money" any more than two PL clubs who are both in Britain and both get their money from TV contracts.

I am aware of that but both countries have very close links and I'm sure do plenty of business together so a lot of underhand things could potentially happen.

The City owners are in trouble for putting money into City through their shell companies in UAE. I'm sure this could be done via Saudi instead, the club get a good player thus increasing the profile of the league, the player gets paid a shit tonne of money and City get to show this for their accounting purposes.

I'm not saying this is what is happening but this is what is being hinted at.

Guess the insinuation would be money laundering. City has some grubby money lurking in Saudi and they're paying extra to get it back into the system. Could happen. I don't think diplomatic relations would have much to do with it. Then in a couple of years maybe some other associate rescues Reijnders from Saudi. The player's defensibly varying value is bandwidth in this medium, not the message: the money would move in chunks in different ways.
