Tactics

Hato handled Yamal pretty well in the Netherlands vs Spain Nations League match few months ago. Made a mistake early on which led to Williams scoring 0-1 for Spain but he dusted himself off and played the rest of the match as if nothing happened (he got sent off late in the game though). Yamal hardly had a kick all game.

I agree with Gurgen. However it could still work out well for him though, see Caicedo et al.

daredevil One team shopping in Harrods and the other at John Lewis/Sainsbury's (If Madueke is our main forward signing). Doesn't always pan out as you expect but there is a lot of copium amongst the fanbase right now.

After the business we've been doing, if anyone's feeling like this when the alarm goes off in the morning, it's them needs to stop huffing all the not-copium. Fuck Liverpool mate, Arsenal's business is about improving Arsenal's squad.

Burnwinter on paper, Liverpool have the better attack and goalkeeper and we've got the better defence and midfield. Everything else is about evens.

Personally, I'm not that impressed. A lot of backup players who don't move the needle. If we're relying on them at any point next season then we're just ensuring we don't completely tank.

Zubimendi is a big signing, but he's replacing Partey/Jorginho who were top. I see his signing as the best we could have made to ensure standards are maintained. He maybe better but I don't see it as an upgrade to what we had.

Gyokeres is a huge signing and is likely a major upgrade on what we had.

For Pool, people don't realise how good Frimpong is. He might not be as good as Trent passing wise but he offers a completely different type of threat with his pace and overlaps. Top 3 player for the Leverkusen team imo along with Wirtz and Xhaka.

Wirtz is a significant upgrade on Szoboszlai, so if we're keeping score, both have upgraded one position so far.

Isak is a massive upgrade on Nunez/Jota, so they would have upgraded one additional position than us. While having an all time GOAT in their team and finishing above us last season.

I'm still hoping that Isak doesn't happen.

Wirtz and Isak are terrific players, but they are also a bit overrated by fans. Isak can drift in and out of games, and Wirtz' output and real effect is inconsistent. I am a fairly confident we'll win the pl this season.

Wirtz and Isak have nothing to do with the points we dropped last February with a starting front three of Trossard, Merino, Nwaneri.

That forward trio might be Eze, Gyökeres, Madueke with the same injuries if our last bit of big summer business gets locked away. That's a big difference.

If we're that much more resilient to setbacks, normal luck will eat the 10 points from 74 to the 84 that scraped dodgy Liverpool their title. The step on to 90 points and beyond is where our real performances will tell their story.

In terms of how complete it is, this will probably be the deepest and richest Arsenal squad I've seen. I'm a bit worried about Zubimendi as a weak point and hoping he stays fit. We also have a very tricky opening to our season which could hurt us, but we've got unparalleled continuity going into that.

daredevil I will give some insights on this. I know what happened. Can't really blame the club for it, but we have to change our approach to transfers.

Previously there was an argument of "who is available that moved?!"

Well, everyone is available when they move innit. It's how you approach them. Isak was never going to move until Liverpool unsettled him. But even till then his first choice was actually us (will expand later on the process).

Don Pacifico Not true at all. If we knew Isak was available earlier we would have moved mountains for him. I am told he is Arteta's first choice by a long stretch and he told our transfer team to get him at all costs. Kroenke gave the green light and money was not a problem and it does not affect all the other positions as well. But we had the impression that he is not for sale so we didn't try, like how do deal with transfers over the years. If you realised, we only go for players that big clubs does not really want, or from small clubs. And we get those done pretty quickly because we just pay what they want, give and take.

We are looking for quality + quantity this summer. Not one or another. Although the way it transpired, it seems like we prioritised raising the floor and Liverpool raised the ceiling.

Gurgen Chelsea is always an attractive proposition for players. Pays well, UCL winners, CWC winners. Generally have a good rep over the last decade.

How many first team players were you expecting? We got 2, that's plenty in a strong squad that has challenged for the title for the last 3 years. Liverpool are signing players but they're losing a lot of really good first teamers at the same time. Trent is a huge loss, you can clearly see how much that hurt them. Diaz is a big loss too, I'll be very surprised if Wirtz comes in and instantly matches what Diaz gave them last season in goals and assists. Isak is a great addition if they get him but so what, so is Gyokeres.

Can't say I agree with this at all. Obviously Zubimendi and Gyökeres are huge signings off the top.

We are very fortunate to have Zubimendi instead of being in the desperation market for a 6 now having had the lack of integrity to extend Partey only to see him finally face these rape charges. Thank fuck.

As for Madueke, he's at minimum an elite threat who will play to give Saka a rest or when he is injured—and that's key for us. Then of course while Eze is not here yet, we're as close or closer to him than Liverpool is to Isak.

We missed out on the title by way of a lack of depth and suffering some absurd refereeing decisions last season. It would currently be far worse for us if we were scrapping good players to make headroom for a couple of £100m plus signings just as liable to go down injured as Saka, Havertz and Ødegaard.

When you say "if we're relying on them at any point"—the point is to be able to rely on players like this and not spend a month or two with our senior forward options Trossard, Merino and Sterling plus a couple of teenagers.
