Was hoping the Eketike deal shut the door on Isak but it actually doesn't as they do need another striker, especially if/when Nunez leaves.

They are also likely to sell Diaz or Ellot so they can definitely afford it if they wanted too.

Would be an insane summer from Liverpool but looks like they have the appetite to do it. Crazy stuff.

GooneriC We could make it work with a loan with compulsory purchase to shift the transfer fee into the next accounting period but doesn't seem like we are in for him.

JazzG Doesn't work like that, if it's compulsory it hits the current accounting period and is just viewed as deferred consideration. Timing of the payment does not matter, intent does so it won't make a difference.

There's not a chance Isak is staying in the Premier League on a loan basis.

Newcastle will say they'd like to win the title, but realistically they will expect Liverpool to be favourites and us to be rivals for a second place finish. Doing any sort of loan deal would be akin to doing us a big favour. Not a chance it happens, and if it does I'd imagine it would have to be accompanied by a premium on the transfer fee so high that it just wouldn't be worth it.

And on outgoings to pay for it, there's nobody in the squad we could move on for a significant fee that I wouldn't rather have than Isak. Getting rid of someone like Saliba to finance an Isak deal is wrong for so many reasons.

The timing of this whole thing is so stupid. We might have had a chance earlier in the summer but that boat has sailed now. Only hope is that it won't be Liverpool but I fear that's the only thing that makes sense.

We decided a long time that he wasn't attainable within our in overall vision for the window. Don't think the fact he's looking to move now and that we've spent loads of money already changes anything.

Don Pacifico I don't think it really matters to us either. We should stick to the plan.

Call it whatever, but given what's happened so tragically with Jota, I think Liverpool will have a complicated window and season no matter what we do. It's still far from automatic everything they're assembling clicks together.

Burnwinter pretty much but even then if we sold Martinelli we'd need a new winger as Isak and Gyokeres wont work there.

Anyway we aren't involved in this.

Hopefully he goes to Saudi. And lets not forget that PIF own Newcastle, this could be a huge fee for him if he does move because its just them moving their own money around.

just like there are players desperate to come here, there will be players that don't want to come here and clearly isak didn't want to come here and we discovered that the same way we knew rice, zubi and others wanted to come well in advance. you don't wait until arsenal blow their load to say you want to leave newcastle if you actually want to come here.

it's like liverpool didn't even expect last season under a new manager. man city was suppose to be man city while they adapt to a new manager and then all their years of saving would culminate in this summer spending spree to end city's run, but city faltered and nearly men arsenal do what non-serious nearly men do and gifted liverpool a title they weren't even expecting. and their spending spree has more substance when they knock as league champions.
