Gazza M there are a few features we need from a left winger. Speed and or acceleration. And ability to both give us width or come in. Wirtz is incredible as a 10, but these aren’t his attributes.

QuincyAbeyie yeah, okay, all I was saying with my original point was getting mad on here every time one of our rivals is linked with, or signs, a good player is going to make for a very tedious summer. I mean we're not even in close season yet and it's already started.

RocktheCasbah people aren't getting upset at 'every good transfer our rivals make'. noone has cared about frimpong or kerkez to pool, or reijnders to city for example. the profile of this transfer is clearly different. wirtz is by far the best player on the market, plays in a problem area for arsenal, and is going to the team that just beat us to the title when it was meant to be our year. all things in context, fans are justified in being pissed off about this particular transfer. I certainly am.

the last time I felt this blindsided and annoyed at a liverpool deal was when they scooped fabinho at a time when our central midfield was diabolical. we all saw liverpools trajectory after they made that move.

JazzG I don't get it, Odegaard is more of a CM compared to Wirtz. They play in opposite areas of the pitch etc

Tactics If we sign Zubimendi, it is going to be Zubimendi, Rice + AM/CM. Wirtz would be ideal and defo a step up from Odegaard, probably would work perfectly with Havertz as well because I think he'd be at his best having a dynamic player, playing off him.

Liverpool are also probably going to lose Diaz and Nunez who they’ll need to replace. Maybe they’re thinking of using Wirtz off the left. Who knows.

I don’t see why it’s either or. If anything Odegaard’s a cautionary tale of why we should have a midfield core of Rice, Zubimendi, Wirtz and Odegaard to choose from given that we’re always facing injuries, overplaying key players and the risk of a loss of form. If we had those 4 to choose from plus a Gyokeres + LW then we’d be favourites for the league and even the CL.

GooneriC that happened last summer. You're talking about it as if it's a regular facet of how we behave.

Also, you've conveniently caveated attacking signings - this is a completely irrelevant distinction. That we've signed fewer attacking players of late is true but there's not a track record of being slow on attacking signings (Jesus, Trossard, Odegaard, Vieira).

I know we all have scars from the Dick Law era of Arsenal transfers but all this hand wringing is completely lacking in perspective.

Can we just stop with this made up line that somehow Liverpool are some transfer god? Go look up the media confirmations of Caicedo, the belief that they had Declan Rice. And others like Bellingham, Enzo, Mount, and Tchouameni.

We need to stop this thing of being overly flattering to other clubs to make a point about relatively small failures on our club’s part.

Will be interesting to see what Liverpool does with him.. if he comes in and plays as a 10 which is most likely then they are going to have to change the setup that has made them so devastating in the last number of years, not saying it won't work but it is not without it's risks... Playing on the wings would probably be a complete waste of his talent.. Not that type for me... He's a great player but I'm not completely convinced he is going to walk into the prem and own it... Could be coping as well...

Claudius Spot on, go and ask Liverpool fans and they'll tell you exactly what they think of their clubs transfer policies in the last few years. A lot of them feel the board undermined Klopp in the last few seasons.
