Let's be honest, he wasn't going to be winning much staying in the PL anyways. It's not like he was going to City, Arsenal, Liverpool or any of the big European teams. Playing with Chelsea won't get you much glory these days either, nor will playing with England in all likelihood.

Yeah. Any career Toney could hope to have at a top club is pretty limited at 28 and will likely be a squad role. Might as well make bank to fund his gambling.

Toney's one of those guys who's always going to be a bit of an outsider.

Reminds me of Matt Le Tissier who was also a bit of an ego who played for a small club, had a few issues with gambling (including trying to fix at least one spread bet, by his own account) and could work wonders with a dead ball.

Why would they be mad? He did more then enough for them. If Saka wins as much as he did and then leaves us for Real, I would cheer him on.

HomeSteak yep. If I was a Liverpool fan at be angry at the club for giving him a 2 year deal a not realising he was going to walk at the end of it. Liverpool fans are the worst around though for this sort of shit. Its as much a cult as a football club.

I can empathise with it. He embodies the club, city and fans which obviously means a lot to them. And there is only 1 club for us fans.

If Saka won 2 leagues and a Champions League with us, think I'd find it hard to understand why he would want to leave as a fan mainly because that is THE dream and you are living it. Why would you want to play for any other club? Could only ever be Arsenal for us.

But from a professional, job point of view easy to understand wanting a new challenge and a change.

Mirth I think he'll play a very big part in solving their creativity issues. He creates like a good midfield play maker. His ability to hit their wingers quickly from deep will be huge too. I think he'll be brilliant for Real, he's hugely underrated for some reason.

Mirth I don't think he'll be as exposed defensively as he is here, ahead of him is 33 year old Carvajal and 33 year old Vasquez. Attacking wise he is an absolute force going forward, when you're that good in attack teams will adjust to fit you in.

GooneriC They've known since at least January if not earlier that Trent is going. We've similarly upgraded our central midfield already with Zubimendi.

Claudius Exactly, striker situation is also more complicated.

We've needed a striker since last year. And desperately so since January.

GooneriC Striker market isn't the same. Who are our rivals buying? United got Zirkzee and fake Haaland. Spurs replaced Kane with Solanke. The guys we are most closely looking at are Sesko who while exciting is a very raw prospect still, and Gyokeres who has a lot of question marks given his UK track record and the fact that he's playing a lot of Championship level players in Portugal.
