Who the fuck is Australia’s coach, letting them play out the back like that

Got to give it to Giroud. Going to break Henry's record in fewer games.

Maradona, Lacazette and Mourinho die hard. Good trio

Nope. Only Maradona die hard. Laca was just a good servant for us, not even in my top 10 Arsenal players of all time. Jose is a cunt but top 5 manager of all time.

I should bloody well hope not 😆

France looks fully bought in.

Playing as an un-selfish and motivated team, and that’s scary with how much talent they have.

Griezmann is so technically gifted. Brilliant in tight spaces and has great vision.

Would have loved for him to play for us all these years.

Maybe he missed a zero.

At least.

France team looks solid.
For those complaining about younger and newer players not getting a look in at France and other places, have some sympathy for national team managers. They rarely see their teams. But they time they see them, they’re already missing some key mm pieces like Benzema, Pogba and Kante. It’s not ideal to impose your own additional changes.

Would be funny if France go further in WC's either side of Benzema's involvement in Euro 2021.

Just goes to show football isn't as simple as Benzema > Giroud, therefore the team should do better.

I mean, it still could be that simple. It's just that Benz vs Giroud is only one of thousands of variables changing between the tournaments. Opposition, form of teammates, referee decisions etc all have an effect on the result.

France getting further with Giroud doesn't say anything about the two players.

Saliba is unlucky Konate and Upamecano used to play together at Leipzig otherwise I'm sure he'd have started this match ahead of Konate. Upamecano looks transformed this season, was faultless defensively and played some quality forward passes.

Griezmann in a midfield 3 is an interesting experiment, I have my doubts especially against quality opposition but if there's a forward player that can make it work, then it's him - he's very hardworking defensively. I guess Deschamps is trying to compensate for the absence of Pogba's playmaking skills (which France always miss) by adding an attacking player in there.

France have a lot of quality all over the pitch but they aren't yet a well oiled machine, distances among the players are usually quite large which makes it difficult to apply pressure on the ball. That was particularly the case in the first 20-25 minutes of this match and we saw something similar in their match against Switzerland at the Euros. They look more solid when they push up the defensive line and squeeze the play but Deschamps is a cautious coach. So there is this tendency for the defensive line to drop deep and players floating all over pitch, with some attempting to press whilst others drop back. If they fix that side of the game, then they could go all the way again.

Japan lineup is poor. No Mitoma, no Tomi who's still injured.

Easy German win

The Japanese players composure is immense. Not inferior to Germans technically too just lacking a prolific striker

Bloody hell Mitoma is too bloody good. Sign him up

Germany played Japan off the park in the first half but Japan have completely turned it around now.

Great !! You play Tomyiasu you win.
