lorddulaarsenal My vote is for Federico Redondo, in the winter or next summer. Can be the #6 pivot we have been looking for in 12-18 months. I know he plays in the MLS which is never a great place to judge talent, but he does look special.

Partey was awesome yesterday - could tell when he and Timber were off the pitch that we lost all control from a possession perspective. He's still lost a few steps athletically but his positioning has improved with each game this season it feels. I've gone from dreading seeing his name on the team sheet at the beginning of the year to being very comfortable seeing him there and I do think it will allow us to rotate a lot more if/when we can get Odegaard back and Merino at match fitness.

Clrnc I'd agree. I think Rice hasn't been bad but he's just there being glue and doing his job without standing out in a positive or negative way. No harm in that, I'm sure there will be spells in the season where we rely on him more and he has more impact.

I think Rice's energy, his pressing up front, interceptions and his physicality are a massive positive for us. We'd notice if he missed a handful of games.

He's no Lampard yet but I've felt his passing and decision making is quicker when in the opposition half than when he's taking three touches too many in his own half.

if he misses some (not a lot) games due to niggles here and there, sign him to a 1 year contract. if he's healthy in a contract year he can fuck off because that means he wasn't treating his body right in the previous seasons.

Really hope we don't extend him for a multitude of reasons - most of them on the field but the big one off the field is always paramount in my mind. Just would like to stop doing mental gymnastics every time I have to force myself to root for him given his alleged issues off the field. But on the field, while he's been great recently, I feel like he's on borrowed time and we need to move on as the squad progresses to a top 5 team in the world. I just don't know who that replacement would be right now but hopefully someone pops up over the next few months. Still think a combo of Rice/Merino would work next year as the 6 as long as we bring in an elite CM that can either be the passing maestro in the left 8 or an output focused 10 that would allow us to shift Odegaard to the left 8 to focus more on buildup.

It's early doors, but I have a feeling Merino will turn out to be a clone of Rice, sharing the same strengths and weaknesses. Although, I'm hoping being left footed will open up more passing angles down the LHS which will benefit Martinelli in a way that Rice can't.

daredevil I've seen a few people mention this. what gives this impression out of curiosity? other than stature and engine, he looks like he has a fair few qualities that differentiate him from rice

if his off the field issues were serious to the club he would have been bushed a long time ago, moreover entertain extending his contract. the club clearly made a decision about who they believe, you might not like the decision, but the best way to handle that is to not be hypocritical and do like klaus. if you believe it to be true then the club and people (execs, the coaches, the players) that embrace him are scum too. you can't separate the two this many years later. i don't believe it so i have no issue with anyone at arsenal.

That makes no sense to me. Surely they'd be scum if they believe it and still embrace him, not if I believe it.

QuincyAbeyie I think Meat (you don't mind if I call you "Meat", do you?) is saying that if you do believe Partey did what is alleged and see that the players are treating him as if he didn't, then by implication they have to be wrong uns as well. They're either incredibly naïve, or employing cosmic levels of cognitive dissonance to get through the time spent working with Partey.

RocktheCasbah well, I think Partey did do it. But I don't think people who believe him are scum.

However, I also think the club has taken a stance based on what they can get away with rather than whether they believe him or not. Like other massive corporations, it doesn't care about people.

RocktheCasbah I doubt the players are treating him as if he didn't, I think the players are happy to turn a blind eye because they are part of the same culture. Sexual assault is normalised in football. One of its biggest global superstars got away with a brutal rape no questions asked. No-one even mentions it these days. But the Weinstein/Diddy moment will come, sooner or later.

The club considering a contract extension for this human waste of space is just horrible, but as Quincy said the club obviously doesn't care about people.

I remember Ozil the year before he got his contract renewal played like a demon. As soon as Ozil got his renewal he was never the same player.

Ramsey was the same in 2018/2019 but luckily we didn’t renew him.
