Coombs I also would’ve liked more money but the outcome wasn’t surprising. A few years ago here I said that the market would bifurcate. That teams would push money into big money signings and everything else would be incidental. And you see much more of that now.

We aren’t the only club that struggled with sales. Look at United and Chelsea’s outgoings. Their fans are furious because they each have some £100m in sales that didn’t materialise.

Claudius Arteta will give Elneny exactly 0 minutes in the PL, 0 in the CL, close to 0 in the FA Cup, and a few minutes in the league cup(if we don't get decent opponents, if we get City like last year for example, it will be 0 as well). Yeah, any academy player could do that without having to pay him the 65.000 pounds per week he is reportedly on.

HomeSteak Elneny is on 1/3 of that. We only extended his contract on 1/3 wage to allow him to rehab.

Clrnc i cannot find anything about that. All reports say he earns anything between 55k-60k per week. Considering we are doing loan deals for player like Raya to not break FFP, yeah I would say the Elneny extension is stupid. He could have done his rehab without signing a new deal as a lot of other players have. Anyways...it is what it is

This is no surprise with Partey. We all know how unreliable his fitness record is (and how unreliable he can be on the pitch too...🤫).
We can't complain about Arteta not rotating if we then aren't willing to use our squad depth when these situations arise. The reality is, we do have options even if they are ones people may not like.
As Claudius has pointed out, we've struggled to trim our squad so buying endless replacements for players that may break down at some point isn't the decision to make.

daredevil you say that, but it has clearly affected us at the end of the transfer window. We knew Partey was out for 3 months on Wednesday and did nothing, we knew timber is out for the season but did nothing, I'm sure our spending got us at the limit with FFP and it affected us. It's not coming from my pocket, but it's fucking up the squad for...literally no reason, as he is not contributing to the team

Agreed. At times we act so amateurish. Always one step forward two steps back in the transfer market. We once haven’t had a transfer window where you can hand on heart say ‘yep, that was a good one and no gaps, let’s go’.

Hardly. It's Ben White and Tomiyasu.

The reality is, we have options. Do we have a perfect like-for-like replacement of every single first team player? Probably not but that's unrealistic for most teams and Arteta's love of tactically intelligent and positionally flexible players is intended to mitigate this.

Haha the injury prone Tomi can’t be everyone’s back up. What happens when Zinny is out for a prolonged period and White picks up a suspension?

For 4 positions you need at least 7/8 players, not 6. If Zinny, Tomi and Parety can’t be relied upon then it’s a huge problem as the likes of Saliba will be over played and we know what happened last season…

If you don't trust Tomiyasu's fitness that's another issue but he is our option. If we don't trust him, then we needed to sell/replace him not buy in addition.

With Timber we had 7 defenders (where most are able to play more than one position) - that's perfectly adequate and that Timber got injured so early on is bad luck. Getting a decent replacement who would fit the system wasn't a realistic option.

Sicario2 - Tier 1 Actually I know what you mean, but if we want to take risk the first part of the season is exactly where you can take risk because injury crisis hardly happens during this part, rather always during the run in which by then we would have gotten reinforcements.

Both Tierney and Tavares have gone, too. We had tonnes, now we have slim pickings.
