Meatwad might as well say you're going to keep it open in case you get new evidence that can actually help you
Fuck the police, but if they're doing their jobs, this is what they're supposed to do, build a case that can succeed. Even more so in cases of CSA or rape where charges are often hard to prove at trial, even if what actually happened is pretty obvious to anyone close to the situation.
I have two survivor acquaintances who've gone through the investigative process in such cases—or at least I've got two where I'm close enough to them that I heard all the details of their experiences.
The first was gang-raped in an alley after having her drink spiked in Budapest. I was with her when she made a full report to Hungarian police, a process that took two days with an interpreter and was very difficult with repeat medical examinations and so on, and some of the people in the situation appearing to slut-shame her. The police gathered evidence in her case for almost a year, but the three men whose DNA they got were acquitted.
The second was the victim of CSA by her trumpet teacher when she was around 15. He faux-romanced her and other girls he was grooming, and coaxed them into having weird sex with him. She only came forward to police age 19. They've been collecting evidence intermittently from her and other witnesses ever since, she's now 32. Since she was about 27 they've had enough to set up a border alert on the perp, who moved to Singapore in the interim, where he now teaches at a conservatorium.
I also have a woman friend who was raped by her then boyfriend after he'd gotten her very drunk to the point she was nearly unconscious. She required trauma surgery afterwards from which it took months to recover, not to mention significant emotional impacts, feelings of worthlessness and shame, and of course angrily dumped him, but did not report the matter to police.
Some people persistently trivialise the things that have been alleged against Partey, but these matters can be extremely serious whether or not they ever make it to court or lead to a verdict. They occur both within and outside relationships, and sometimes involve situations that are superficially consensual. Women, and sometimes men from all walks of life endure this kind of stuff from all types of guys, and very occasionally women.
I don't know the details of why Partey's bail is being extended, it could be his own legal team that is delaying the overall process. But if it's the police taking their time, I support it.
Apologies for the long post, but fuck rapists. I hope every one of them that can be taken down gets taken down.
