Claudius We are losing Jorginho and replacing him with Zubi. If we replace Partey, we face opportunity cost. We now need to spend time this summer looking for a second CM (in addition to to the 2 forwards and goalie we already need). And then that CM will likely cost us £12-15m a season versus £10m for Partey.
All speculation and rumour. We have no idea what’s going on. If we keep Partey around we may ‘save’ £4-10m based on those assumptions around price and it being for two seasons. That’s barely making a dent for PSR etc, unless you are of the belief we will be investing so heavily in all those problem areas that we will face significant constraints in our transfer business?
And in any case, we’re always going to have to invest to replace Partey, so that £4-10m saving is an accounting trick, and keeping him around is likely to cost us more as the chances are his replacement won’t be on near the same salary.
On your point about Barca and Atletico, we’ll see. That a club he has ties with and Barca (well known for their impeccable transfer business over the years) are rumoured to want him does not mean much to me. Let’s see how he fares next season wherever he plays.
