I hate the last couple of days of the window. It's 4pm Monday here and the window closes 10am Wednesday for us in Sydney. That's far too long to be worrying about some Ecuadorian I've only recently heard about.

I don’t know what you’re saying now. Let me reiterate. The most important thing is fit. What is the manager’s style?. What is the squad plan? Based on that, select and buy players. Aim to make squad where every role is clear and the plates fit spec. Don’t mix together a bunch of leftovers just cos you have them

It's been a disappointing couple of weeks missing out on key targets. Ordinarily I'd be a lot less bothered with starlets in the shop window for £70m plus.

Someone like Caicedo may be good but we have a team of guys we got for less who are probably better or not far off.

My main concern though is that we don't somehow Arsenal our way out of what has, against expectations—and I really doubt you if you think you saw this charge coming—turned into one of our best league challenges in ages, and one we may not better any time soon,

I’m not annoyed at the club. It would certainly be nice to get a midfielder in.
But I appreciate that this Caicedo situation is much, much harder tha Mudryk one, which itself was tough. Basically, we didn’t need a Mudryk profile. We just needed any hood forward. Here, we need a Caicedo age player given how old Xhaka/Partey are. But good enough to contribute. And hope that teams will trade that person in January.

midfield equivalent of trossard is needed - maybe revisit Douglas Luiz or tielemans? a quick squiz at some liecester forums would suggest hes one of very few still playing well for them, but he needs a move to rediscover his top form. we could throw out 15-20m to test Leicesters resolve, then we can go for rice, caicedo or bellingham in the summer.

Gazza M midfield equivalent of trossard is needed - maybe revisit Douglas Luiz or tielemans? a quick squiz at some liecester forums would suggest hes one of very few still playing well for them, but he needs a move to rediscover his top form. we could throw out 15-20m to test Leicesters resolve, then we can go for rice, caicedo or bellingham in the summer.

Would rather a loan deal than be encumbered with someone we don't really want.

Luiz extended contract in the fall. I doubt try club is as keen on Tielemans as Tielemans is on the club.

I rather don't waste any dim on a lesser CM.

Rather overpay hugely on our number 1 target so that he is useful in the long term, rather than looking to shift him along next time for close to nothing again.

Agreed in general but to be fair we’d probably make a profit on Tielemans.

Giving that he turned us down last time because he didn’t think he’d get games he probably doesn’t fancy being a last resort this time though.

Anyway kinda got to also admire the guts and ridiculousness of Chelsea. They are signing Enzo for 120m. They certainly don't dally at all

Can we really not convince Zubamendi to be part of a league winning team this season? Although I do very much admire his loyalty and wish to secure a CL spot for Sociedad before leaving, it's really inconvenient for us.

QuincyAbeyie Some players are principled about these things, he's been at the club his whole life so probably wants to leave in the right manner.

Even if we do somehow manage to sign Caicedo, Zubimendi is the one we should be going for in the summer.

Tielemans is a "boring" option, but he is good enough to come in and do a good job in games here and there. Would at least keep Sambi out of the team..

Kel Varnsen If Caicedo falls through, I'm okay with going for Tielemans on Deadline Day, even if we have to pay _20m for him when we could get him for a free in the summer. As you said, he's better than Sambi and that's the bar right now as we look to challenge for the title over these next 19 matches. Really hope we can change Brighton's mind with an improved offer though.

Tielemans isn't a Caicedo alternative at all. He's not a 6, his weaknesses will be too close to Sambi's.

Don't want Tielemans. Just want a Partey back up that can help us to the title, loan or moderate/modest buy. Doesn't have to be a great passer between the lines. Just a dynamic, defensively astute, decently press resistant CM.
