Don Pacifico I'm not convinced that is a sustainable and secure way to run a club.
It's not. You can't ignore financial gravity forever, it'll bite you in the ass eventually.
I'm ok with us splurging on Mudryk if the management think he's the one, though. Passing up on the best players in favour of value is a sound approach when building a squad from a low base but when you're close to the pinnacle of the game there are very few players who can make the difference and you need them to get to the top. Wenger was terrible for this, he'd develop 90% of a brilliant team and then instead of splurging to get the players needed to complete it, he'd spend years trying to develop punts and by the time one had come good, the rest of the team would have moved on.
Liverpool signing Alisson and Van Dijk was a prime example of it done right; big fees and they probably could have found better value buys but they probably would have finished 2nd rather than win their title and guys like Salah and Mane would have fucked off.
I'm just surprised we find ourselves in potentially a similar situation so soon.
