It’s worth talking about rotation. There are a lot of folks on this forum who say Mikel doesn’t maximise his resources and rotate enough. I think I tend to be on the Goon/Kel side of things.
Mikel has taken us to a top 2 position not rotating much because he is making the most of his top 13 or so players. Those are the ones he trusts to carry out his instructions and outplay opponents. That’s him maximizing resources.
But there is also an opportunity to build a bit more squad resilience. And that requires playing 1 or 2 of the more capable players along with the trusted dozen. I’m thinking Vieira and Nketiah mainly. Nketiah will get more chances if he has all of Xhaka, Odegaard, Saka and Martinelli creating for him. And if it’s not working at halftime, you just rotate the guy out. It’s much lower risk than the half rotated squads we use midweek where players don’t know each other at all and expending more energy covering mistakes
