I think it is. I also think a key strength of this team is its versatility though.
Trossard, Jesus, Rice, White, Havertz, Timber, ESR can all play (some in theory/need to prove it admittedly) in multiple positions without their level dropping.... so having the option of Havertz in the front line or Trossard and Rice in the 8 makes it a lot stronger..

My main concern is if we have the balance right between defence and attack, but will reserve judgement until see how we will set up next season

Clrnc I'm not sure thats as strong as last season. Now thats based on hindsight, I don't think anyone would have thought Xhaka would have the season he did so we'll need to have a few players surprise us like that. Even then I think with CL football on top of everything else that squad still needs 2 or 3 with a bit of quality. How many games outside of the domestic cups would you really be confident of a starting XI that had Vieira, Nelson and Jorginho in it for instance?

For the title probably not, but it probably won't be no matter what we do because City are City. It's good enough to give it a go at least. It would be a lot stronger with Lavia out and Partey in though.

Feels like we could afford to let Vieira leave on loan, but also feels a little short on quality on the wings still.

Also If Tierney leaves we need another LB. Might be too much changes in a window.

It looks good. Agree a little light on the wings but if Nelson/ESR step up and become reliably good options then that would probably be enough.

Elneny won't go 🥲 but hopefully Lokonga will. Vieira can have 1 more season. Balogun will go and hopefully Tierney will stay.

Qwiss yeah don't disagree with that. The only area that is really strong is defence. No real drop off in quality with anyone playing

Think we could still do with someone like Simons as an option and ship out one more in attack

Clrnc yeah defence looks very solid. My worry is that it will have to be because that is not a very strong looking midfield defensively on paper.

Simons makes less sense to me now we have Havertz. I'd rather a more defensive player or a player who's more of a traditional wide forward.

Meatwad hard this. You can obviously be angry at Partey. But hard to be mad at Arsenal. I’m not sure what degrees of freedom they have over here. They’d be getting sued into bankruptcy if they’d done anything stupid here.

This isn’t like football and football clubs willingly doing things like going to Qatar, playing players into the ground, gouging fans, encouring sports washing, etc. there are so many things where football teams and associations are in control of their actions where I fully hold them accountable for the bullshit.

Claudius Everton suspended Gylfi Siggurdson pending a police investigation and he never played for them again. That investigation was dropped a couple of months ago. Whether they would have done that had it been charges of sexual offences against an adult rather than a child we’d never know, but the option was no doubt open to Arsenal.

Klaus can speak for himself. But his anger was very much directed at the club and their support of Partey. I doubt he’ll be back but I hope he will.

Tam Yeah. Correct me if I'm wrong but it's actually more common for clubs to suspend the player who is under an investigation than let him play till the results are out.

A manager doesn't even need a reason to stop playing someone. Pretending like our hands are tied here is extremely convenient.

Convenient is probably a good way to describe how clubs and fans deal with these things. Decisions are based on PR, money and personal desires and ‘right and wrong’ comes some way down the line.

I myself compartmentalised it so I could keep on enjoying the season.

People who speak up against their own interests are quite rare, people who act upon it are even rarer, so fair play to Klaus imo.

True. But Klaus was also over Mikel. He thought he played the worst football he’d ever seen. So there was a lot happening there. Felt like the Partey affair was the straw that broke the camel’s back

Claudius don't think that's a factor. Arteta is Klaus fav midfielder previously, often sang praises for him. I really don't think even his biggest fan as a manager here look back at 2020, 2021 and can claim we play any attractive football at all so Klaus is right. And even then he's always here.

Partey is completely different.

Claudius I had an email exchange with Klaus a few months ago, he said he was enjoying his time away from football. He'd stopped taking much pleasure from the sport and Arsenal, and the Partey affair was a part of that. Can't blame him. At the time he was focused on other stuff that sounded cool and having a great time with it.

Partey's investigation has been a serious matter, if you say otherwise you're either unworldly or prefer ignorance.

Clrnc hmmm. By the end of the season before last the platform was clear and I was comfortable with where the team was headed. I think there was a core diffference that folks like Kalus had which was that Arteta needs to be able to succeed with whatever players he has at his disposal, which I was opposed to. I believe in strong football strategy - player profile alignment. So I was comfortable with the initial efforts two seasons ago, but knew we had to change the back line as a start, and then upgrade other areas of the field like goalie etc to support the vision. And this difference I think made people judge Arteta quite differently - either as a failure or someone who needed time.

Well put, Claudius. Time has proven that Klaus (and plenty of others) completely misjudged Arteta, and the type of football he was rebuilding the squad to try to play.

Anyway, that debate has been well and truly settled. I'm sure Klausie loves what we do on the pitch now - how could he not? I hope he comes back soon!

lorddulaarsenal says a lot that after playing such incredible football, he is willing to risk that by selling Xhaka and Partey who were both fantastic before the World Cup. But the e focus is on building a team that can dominate for years, not opportunism. So far removed from the age of Gazidis.
