Iwobi is fine for Everton in midfield and the level they're at - and CM is where I wanted him to drop to at Arsenal because his poor end product was always going to limit his potential as a forward - but I hope for better than that moving forward.

You have to say 40m for Iwobi even in his decent spell of performance is overpaying for what you're getting.

It was a fantastic sale.

The sale itself is decent value, but since we could've needed him at the time when we sold him it wasn't a good choice at the time.

It's standard price for young PL player. The add ons was achievable but it will be around 30m. Nothing special imo.

Ox on the other hand was a fantastic sale

We didn't play a 4-3-3 at the time though and we haven't really until this calendar year.

Iwobi is an example of good process and outcomes. I’m glad he is doing well, but he wouldn’t push any of our front 4 for a starting berth. We got good money for him, almost what Odegaard cost us.

Next year, hopefully we can do the same with 1 or 2 guys.

Everton are relegation level. I'm all in favor of the club being a bit sentimental about promoting and keeping players from our youth team, but let's not pretend we should have kept Iwobi around. Would be the same problem as we now have with Maitland-Niles.

Let’s see how the season pans. But maybe you get a stupid offer for someone like ESR if he has a decent season. You take that and reinvest.

One thing that is clear. United and Chelsea lack imagination and Newcastle want to build their “brand”. So those 3 are always viable options. We just need to do well this season and regain the perception that we are a talent hub as was the case when we sold Van Persie, Fabregas, and Nasri. Except now we reinvest in completing the team.

Wouldn't agree with that at all. ESR is in a different bracket to the likes of Iwobi.

I agree, but if we want to sell for real fees, we're going to have to get used to selling in the Premier League. That's how City took our cash this summer ...

As long as you can go out and find a better player for the money, doesn’t really matter. Our objective is to build a better team. The mistake we made in the past is while we had better scouting than everyone else, we started selling players like Fabregas etc and didn’t replace them

I don't think we need to sell our best young players just to fund some unicorn signings. I know people love transfer drama but you'll quickly kill any of the good atmosphere at the club if you start getting rid of the best players that have come through the academy in well over a decade.

I don't think we're going to sell any of these players while they're here and contributing well in the first team, unless they force their own way out.

As for when Arsenal products stop producing, we've always let them go in the past, we're doing it now and no one's complaining. In fact we're complaining we didn't do it quicker as with Maitland-Niles.

You say amen but you also specifically mentioned in your scenario if ESR had a decent season while Burns is talking about players who've stopped producing.

I like Ainsley but he was always just a good squad filler. ESR is one of the best players at the club and should be starting a lot more matches.
