He has not quite found his place in the new team yet but also it is a tactic that is being employed where we overload the left side and then switch it to the right where he can isolate the defender.

Not worried about him at all in general.

I'm not worried, he'll start scoring I'm sure. Just rather sooner than later. Heat maps tell a story, though.

His xG per 90 has always been comparatively low compared to someone like Martinelli. I thinks it's just 0.12 so far this season and 0.25 last season. A 15 goal a season player needs to be a lot closer to 0.50

He just doesn't have that knack for getting into the right spaces to score goals yet, very rarely see him score a tap in or close range goal. Pepe on the other hand is quite good at it. It will come though and that's when the floodgates will open.

It's the same point that Ally McCoist made during last season's game at Old Trafford. He does have a tendency to stay wide till quite late in an attack built down the left hand side. Literally a minute after McCoist made this point, Saka had a half chance that would have essentially been a sitter, if only he'd moved inside two seconds earlier.

But it's easy to forget that he is still only 20.

Nothing is coming down the right. Teams are focussing on that Saka/Odegaard combo to try and stop us because thats where everything came from last season. Thats why Odes xA is 0.02 as well. Once teams realise the Jesus/Martinelli combo is just as potent they'll pivot to that and Saka/Ode will come back into form.

Ha. My thoughts exactly when I read Qwiss' post.

But yeah it's going to have to be a case of pick your poison for teams now. I think they'll keep doubling up on Saka for the most part as we(they) already know how lethal he can be, but it opens up space for others, and eventually, after he sees defenses long enough, he's intelligent enough to suss out how and when to attack to be most effective and start to tear things up again.

Three fast, fit forwards who can press, beat a man, create and, on a good day, score.

An entertaining and dangerous attacking trio that could hypothetically improve for several seasons to come. Looking forward to Martinelli just rounding the corners off his game a little bit in the next couple of years.
