Decent article Anzac.
A couple points. First, Yes we did just handily beat Chelsea and Sevilla, and I have seen the defensive record from last season of the latter in particular mentioned quite a few times. However, I would caution that these are both teams in defensive transition - and for Chelsea especially, their whole club structure has been destabilized by off the pitch stuff. Not our problem though as we can only play what is in front of us. I enjoyed it as much as any Gooner but in retrospect I would personally have preferred to have slightly higher competitive level of opponents, just to get a better feel for where we are at right now. I agree with whomever said the Emirates cup should revert to its prior format if possible. Anyway, we’ll find out soon enough I guess.
Secondly, funny the writer touched on this, but I was also thinking earlier today that Fabio V. might be a true revelation of a signing this season. I was watching some clips and he just has a touch, vision and weight of forward passing that seems different class to what we have already. I’d wager he might actually be better than Odegaard in that aspect of the game. The only question marks for me would be his robustness, defensive acumen, and ability to adapt to the physicality and pace of the league. I see him as our X factor. If he can settle in asap, I’m confident of a very, very good season (injuries permitting).
