All I know is Nketiah isn’t an option and we need someone who can play as a nine. Memphis has 6 months on his contract. Sizable wage (£160k) but he’s a versatile forward who might be the difference between us getting a title or not.

Well, everyone's talked about how even with a massive collapse we should be okay for top four. I think we will be.

I'd like to see us sign at least one top forward in the winter window who satisfies the following criteria: planned to be a first team regular in the absence of Jesus, in line with our overall squad strategy, in line with holding onto the possibility of a title run. If we do that, we can't do much better.

As you're saying Claude, a central player seems more logical than a wide man now. However, it's all about work rate. Jesus is a forward threat, but as we all know he tops the league on pressing and defence for his position.

On Nketiah, I don't think we should be hoping for a revolution. His motivation has seemed quite contingent, I don't trust him to deliver.

Looks like a handful (he said, reviewing the Xhaka crotch gesture versus Serbia).

Way I see it there's no one we'll sign who doesn't press all day like a good boy, and I'm not gonna pick that up from a highlights reel. I knew Jesus was good defensively before we signed him but he's been unreal. If our press is severely diminished that'll cost us more than Jesus's goals after all.

He is actually one of the few that can press at a similar level (when he wants to), not as smart or good on the ball though. Would be a massive risk.

I'd get someone in like Zaha if the price is right. Short term fix but versatile and will make an instant impact. No projects if we serious.

Everyone is disregarding Nketiah, which is understandable but I find it difficult to reconcile that our solution to an injury in the squad is always to go out and buy a replacement. We have a replacement already.

Thinking really simplistically, we're not going to be missing Jesus' goals, which already makes Eddie's job that little bit easier and whilst there will be an obvious step down in terms of his link play, I don't think that part of his game is so bad that we should feel so hopeless about him leading the line for a couple of months.

Additionally, the fact that Eddie will be playing in the first team (rather than the EL reserves) may make him more productive than what we've seen so far this season.

Anyways, that's my glass half full take.

We won't win the title now. It was hard enough with everyone fit. 🙁 Would still expect us to finish top 4 though.

I'd still buy a wide forward and move Martinelli to the centre if Nketiah not cutting it up front.
