I'm good with Jesus. I'd be a lot more worried if he wasn't getting any shoting chances, or any shots off like Laca regularly subjected us to, but he is getting chances and shot s off. Just not going in for him due to a mixture of great saves, poor finishing and at times over thinking things and taking an extra touch that results in the shot being blocked. The goals will come. He may not ever become a top scorer but he'll get a very decent number of goals minimum. What he does add is everything else aound that. His ability to hold up the ball despite his frame, bringing others into play, some sublime dribbling. I'm not worries about Jesus at all.

He is a pressing forward, that is his biggest trait.

Scoring wise he has never been super prolific throughout his career so we knew what we are buying

I'm always amazed at his ability to leave 3-4 defenders flat on their arse, but still have his shot blocked at the end.

He always tries to sleep one too many players. The other day, think maybe the game against Zurich, it looked like he slept half their team but thenhad his shot blocked. Must be gutting for him.

The difference between his actual goals and expected goals is already as big as his last two years at City put together, so it's not just a continuation of how he already was. It's gotten worse, but he's also doing a lot more groundwork.

It's a weird one with Jesus because the execution of his goal attempts, with the odd exception, are not really bad. Feels like he's been unlucky for a few of his attempts not squirming in. Does post shot xG exist for strikers?

You got to wait until the end of the season to average out to say he has got worse surely? He is in a bit of rut now, I'm sure he will work it out, not expecting 25 goals a season from him though.

Personally not that fussed if we keep playing the way we are. He is our number 9 on paper but if you look at his average position on the pitch it's like 3rd most advanced or something

When you compare goals to expected goals how advanced his position on the pitch is, is kind of irrelevant. You've already taken that into consideration.

You do need a larger sample size with this stuff though which is where I think Doc is coming from. It can swing wildly with patches of goal scoring form and he's currently in the depths of a bad one.

He's been absolutely brilliant. He's a false nine, target man and creative striker all-in-one. Rather than looking at his number of goals, a more appropriate statistic is goal contributions as he offers half as much creative value as he does goals scoring. 5 goals and 5 assists in 13 PL games is reflective of that and is an excellent contribution.

Jesus had 63 touches against Chelsea, whilst Aubameyang had 8. Haaland apparently averages 22 touches per game! There's clearly a massive difference between goal-getting strikers and how Jesus plays. So it's foolish to judge Jesus using traditional strikers metrics, when Jesus doesn't play like or is being used traditionally.

He should have scored against Southampton, though and arguably cost us the game.

For his assists it's the opposite. The expected assists from his passes is 3 while his assists is 5, so the players he's assisted have been more efficient than average.

And yes, he's great. That doesn't mean he shouldn't definitely score more goals.

Think it's good to know that there is potential for him to take it one step higher if he does become more clinical. will make for more routine wins and also compensate if Saka Or Martinelli hit a rough patch

He will go through ups and down this season, I'm sure you could probably pick a 10 game stretch throughout last season where the difference will appear a lot larger... or smaller, its not a great sample size

So yeah, you could say in these initial games he is worse than the average of all of last season, it doesn't really have much meaning though...

Agree on the position, was more a general comment on my expectations with regards to his goal scoring. Still expect him to get better in that regard

Jesus has been good overall for us, but it's looking like we need to buy another striker this summer to really contend for the PL and compete in the CL. Jammy goals win leagues, we need a more consistent scorer option, even if he doesn't offer as much in total team play.

Yep we need to do what Utd did in Jan 07 (I think) when they signed a 35 year old Henrdick Larsson type to get them over the line for the title that year.

We need to sign a similar player, maybe someone in loan so they won’t block Balogun in 6 months time.

Even someone like that ex-West Ham prick who plays in Italy would be ok for 6 months.
