Interesting to hear Arteta say that he has a very different role here in comparison to City. I'm curious to know what the differences are, as it does feel like the CF has more license to play like an all action centre forward here.

So far it seems Arteta is open to a rotating (in game) forward line, in which anyone can go out wide and Martinelli often ends up central. That likely won’t happen much with Saka on the right, but certainly Martinelli/Jesus will swap and double up.

Well for one thing last season Citeh barely had a recognised CF role. Back to the Barca 4-2-4-0.

Gabi J for us right now is playing Laca's role but better in every department. Even Laca was doing the shifting to the wings but he wouldn't then move into the CF position two seconds later.

First 25 mins honestly he was incredible, compare that to the at times static Auba who hardly moved, hustled, moved deep or won the ball like Jesus did. We always used to say he didn’t get any service etc but you can still make things happen like Jesus showed. This is something we have been missing for a while. It honestly was a breath of fresh air.

By different role for Jesus I don’t think he was talking positionally moreso his status within the squad

He's perfectly suited for what we're trying to do, just look at that first half where we played properly. What a player!

He had a stormer. Should have had 2 assists too if Martinelli scored that early one he put wide and if Ode had taken that shot. Other than that he was just generally great, his pressing and dribbling were top class, as was his link play.

Arteta needs to be careful with him though, and the rest of the front 4. The pressing he wants is intense and the players looked fucked after an hour. He has to get better with his substitutions or we'll end up with a load of injuries ruining our season again. Its also a big reason why we lose control of games in the second half.

Yeah agreed. It works when the pressing results in goals. Go 2 up in the first half and you can reduce the level of intensity of the press and go more transitional. If it doesn't work though then you need to keep it up for extended periods which is not impossible on an individual game basis but will be a struggle over the season

Think it's just a matter of getting smarter of when/how to apply the press and when not too. Liverpool went through a similar process a few years ago.

Mikel knows he has to periodise the pressing but I'm not sure he knows how to set that up.

yeah our pressing is good but looks to be erring on the side of klopps early liverpool days. they were super intense with the high press and couldn't sustain it. over time they built a team comfortable in high intensity pressing and also in a slightly more passive middle block as well. hopefully we've planned for that

It’s nice to watch Arsenal, shout Jesus, and it be positive for a change.

I love how quickly he’s settled. Can’t wait for him to really kick on when he gets a deeper understanding with those around him.

Torres? Can't really think of many others. You almost never see it.

Does Alexis Sanchez count....Both clubs somehow managed to fuck each other over as we signed Mkhitaryan.

You're right though in general signing from PL clubs while more expensive is usually quite risk free. Fergie was known for it, always prioritised signing top PL players. Worked out pretty well for him as well.

Sanchez was done before he left here though, it was really obvious, so I'd say he doesn't count.

Pep had me fooled with this guy, had him bottled up playing some mundane role. The man himself came out and said as much today.

He’s clearly loving the extra freedom and responsibility. Brilliant combination of fight and skill. Based on what I’ve seen so far I reckon he could have a Suarez type impact, which is a big shift on my view on him as a player at City.

big player in the making. had a feeling an unfettered jesus with the full trust of being a leading 9 had alot to offer
