More like the anti Hleb. He was a killer dribbler, absolutely almost impossible to get the ball from him whereas Vieira doesn't and Vieira has a great final ball and decent enough shooting technique whereas Hleb was just the preassist king.

I dunno, I mean I agree about maximising talent, but Hleb definitely sped up play. Both him and Rosicky used to speed up the game with Fabregas dictating the play between them. Just that Hleb would regularly get into shooting positions and Havertz it all up by taking extra touches, usually through unnecessary dribbles. But he was very vertical in his movement.

We've actually missed this guy. He has one of the best final passes in the team and that's one of key things we are missing at the moment. He has as many assists as Odegaard this season whilst having played 12 fewer games.

daredevil yeah, I think his contribution is underrated by the fanbase because he can drift in and out of games but when you look at his numbers they're pretty decent. He's got a hell of a delivery on him.

That being said, he does need to influence the game more over the course of 90 minutes. But as an alternative to our current options, anyone would be appreciated (including ESR!).

This. And its the same problem Havertz has in midfield. The difference when Rice takes that position, or when Xhaka had it last season, is night and day.

He's still figuring it out. Wasn't ready for the step up to the Premier League when we got him, and still isn't quite at the level required to deliver consistent, impactful performances yet.

I sort of agree with this, but I also don't. He's had injuries (and I think they are plural, not singular) that have stalled his development. I also think that this was very clearly a guy who was signed as a development project, rather than somebody who was going to be Premier League ready.

Whether there has been enough development, even accounting for injuries, is for others to decide - as is the question of whether he is ever going to be PL ready, but I don't feel like we're in a "time's up" position here. We need to see a run of games from him.

Pepe LeFrits Hlebs not underrated. He had loads of ability in his feet, great control, etc but Claud is right, he never got enough out of that ability. Mostly because his brain turned to mush once he got with 10 yards of the opposition box.

Clrnc I remember listening to a game on the radio, we were at Villa Park, and the commentators were almost laughing at the way Hleb was ripping Villa to shreds. What a player. Not that, with his inability to put the ball in the net, anyone would be enjoying him right now. 😁

I don't think that's quite right, for one thing Arteta has shown much more willing to use him than he ever has, for all the golden words, Reiss Nelson. I also think that the Vieira we were starting to see earlier this season has shown he can contribute to the first team. So he has demonstrated a small degree of progress. Should he be further up the depth chart than someone like ESR? You know I feel the same as you on that score, but that doesn't mean we should be writing this guy off after just 30 appearances for us.

RocktheCasbah I think he was actually falling down the depth chart just before he got injured. It'll be interesting to see where he is on his return.
