Qwiss He's skinny beyond belief.. Like, I know slight players have been fine in the Prem before but with Vieira it's extreme, to the point it looks like it will negate any talent he does have at the moment. I'm surprised (from the looks of it) that we've not had him in the gym. I remember Lee Dixon saying when we signed Hleb there was big concern over his build and they did alot of work in the gym with him but Hleb had that sort of surprising wirey strength even before that. Vieira doesn't.

Bring Back Kerrea Gilbert

Lukazan yeah, Hleb was tenacious and had tremendous work rate. Vieira looks so pointless right now. I hope having a pre season improves him hugely.

Lukazan Hleb was also an incredible dribbler, he had amazing feet and balance. I'm not sure Vieira is close to that. His main attribute is his ability to find a pass behind the line but if he can't hold onto the ball in congested areas under pressure that ability can't shine.

The only concern I have with Fabio is that he doesn't seem sharp enough whenever he has a poor first touch to then be able to sprint and win the ball again. Very very weak with his acceleration strength

Burnwinter And Vieira's no Cazorla.

Cazorla didn't hide. He backed himself to be able to use his skill to compete with bigger players. Vieira hides, and I don't think its out of cowardice but out of pragmatism. He doesn't have the strength of ability to retain the ball in the face of your average PL mid or defender applying pressure. If you can't do that you can't play in this team, its what the whole thing is built upon.

If he doesn't get stronger we'll never find out if he's good enough.

I think it's counter productive to hide though. Rather than get stronger he just needs to move around a lot more and demand the ball. Get lots of touches even if they're all short and sideways and build confidence that way. 17yr old Cesc was no bigger but no one ever got near him because he was always in space and then popped it off before anyone could get close.

Think this may also be the first time Vieira's been part of a football team and not been considered the golden boy and the duck's nuts. Seems to have played pretty much every match for Porto and was identified early as an elite talent in Portugal.

Tbf he wasn't even a starter until midway through his last season in Portugal I think (started 15 matches and was used as a sub in about the same), and Vitinha was considered the better player and talent. Though he definitely had a higher status there than here.

Yeah, main point is that it's gonna be rather different for him.

Dunno if you saw that bio segment on him a while back, but one of the themes was that he was always a huge standout at youth level and regarded as a prodigy. Whatever else is going on, he's far from special at Arsenal.

Burnwinter technique is very clearly there. That’s why he’s been a star in prior teams. But he needs to adapt to this league. A guy like Odegaard has technique, strength and workrate. That’s the gap.

Claudius was he though, beyond youth level? He hadn't really made himself a standout at Porto and its always a big gamble taking on players from a league like Portugal that haven't been absolutely dominant. I get why we did it, trying to get in before that and a potential price rise, but they called this one wrong. Vieira doesn't look like he'll ever be starting quality for us so why keep developing him? Sell while he still has some value in his potential and get serious players who can compete now in instead.

Qwiss there is no rush to sell this guy. We can sooner love on Lokonga and Tavares who we have both owned for a year.

Give this guy and ESR a full summer of conditioning and let’s see what transpires.

Claudius I don't see what he has over the likes of Lokonga and Tavares. Sell all 3, or loan him out. If we get 2 midfielders in the summer as is predicted how does Vieira even get the game time to progress? He clearly needs a lot.

Qwiss we are playing Champions League next year. We need resources.

You want to see Vieira against Real, Bayern, etc? Vieira is a guy you sign to play Europa games and hope it works out. Not good enough now for CL or PL.

Looked a new signing today, decisive. Won a legit penalty, brilliant assist, attempted worldie bicycle kick and another decent strike. We dropped two, but Vieira earnt us one.

Couldn't believe what I was seeing. We know the talent is there, but he really brought it today. Wow!

I thought that was Bernardo Silva out there.

He played like he had a point to prove which was great to see.

Best 30 mins in an Arsenal shirt for me. Still too skinny though.

When he came on I was livid but almost straight away you could see it wasn't the usual from him. Much more proactive. He was going nuts when people weren't passing to him.

Where did that come from? I had almost written him off. Hopefully it gives him the confidence to keep it up.
