We could have done the same thing to Brighton by the way if we were not so wasteful with our opportunities. The fawning over their football at the Emirates, particularly by Neville, was bizarre. The amount of times they gave us the ball in their half. The only bit of success they had was hitting it long over a hapless White.

goon yeah agree. I'm surprised we didn't press as hard to win the ball in their half like Newcastle and Everton did. They are extremely vulnerable once they lose possession in midfield

goon I think it's only natural. They beat the second placed team that led the league for most of the season 3-0 at our place. The angle was never going to be "the score could've been closer if Arsenal were more efficient."

Meanwhile, we didn't even create a single shot that was above 0,1 xG, totaling for 0,7-0,8. Eyes might say that we just couldn't finish, but the stats certainly don't.

Clrnc we did. they coughed up the ball plenty of times in their own half. our big problem was the confidence levels in our forward passing and finishing had evaporated. I'm not surprised they've been battered by everton and Newcastle lately, playing the way they do

It’s not all about finishing, Odegaard feigning a shot in the box counts as zero xG, messing up a 4 v 3 after winning the ball in the final third counts as 0xG. We had a few opportunities that didn’t lead to a shot.

Also it wasn’t a plucky Brighton are really great against Arsenal, the narrative was that Brighton were playing us off the park.

To be fair they pretty much did for 2nd half. Our possession for that half was the lowest for 3 years or something at home.

I do agree we tried somewhat to press them into mistake but we stopped doing that from the 2nd half onwards.

Yeah second half was awful but that was more about the energy just being sapped from the side (and the stadium) after their first goal imo.

Even then they barely generated any xG, what little they did came from unforced errors.

For me, our performance vs. Brighton was one that said we're gonna finish second no matter what, so who cares. I think we'd have handled them if we were actually on the job.
