Bruno Guimaraes has been some signing. I remember when Homesteak and I first started talking him up a few years back. Didn’t think he would be this transformative. He would’ve been the perfect rotation option for our midfield, especially given how fragiwl Partey is

Newcastle is superbly well coached.

Can't believe the work Howe has done to make the likes of Joelinton and co look so good. So far his only big signing is Bruno G and he has totally transformed the Newcastle team without much cash splashed yet.

That’s the scariest thing, Clrnc. The richest team in the league has climbed up to the top four on the back of good coaching and selective, smart recruiting. Once they open their purse, it’s done. It will just be a battle of the Gulf

Didn't they spend over 100m as the top spenders in the Jan transfer window?
They've spent in volume rather than on individuals as yet.
I expected them to compete for UEL places this season but i did not expect them to actually contend for 3rd/4th place as yet.
This may be our last season to regain top4 before their financial juggernaut takes effect, although I'm also hoping Boehly doesn't have any appetite to continue to spend 100m+ at CFC each summer.

They were like this last season too. People just missed it because Howe started way down the league but the moment he came in they improved and after January they were excellent. They've been on pace with the "big 6" since Howe started. They're a serious threat for the top 4. And they do it playing some really nice football too. Howe is a top coach.

Exactly, Qs. They’ve been doing this all 2022. This is why I was comfortable saying they’d get to World Cup in third. They’re much more consistent than our established rivals who are all either dealing with a coaching change, injuries or Conteball.

They're a solid side on a good run with a good manager, but the pressure's right off them.

Despite their progress under Howe, I think they will go through another round of turnover and renewal, integrating more big money signings no doubt, before they get to the stage we're at. It gets harder when expectations set in and stalwart, decent players have to start being cut to make way for upgrades. The process has a way to go for them.

Isak is out with long term injury so basically the team that played yesterday only had Bruno Guimares as a big signing. The rest of the players, nobody would expect them to be able to play for a top 4 or even top 6 club. Burn, Almiron, Joelinton, Willock, Wilson, Longstaff, Schar etc all should be bang average and some even deemed not good enough by their fans when they were in relegation zone.

They’ll last. They have better fundamentals than our rivals. They’ve been very strong.

Disagree. It’s the same as the likes of West Ham, Brighton and Leicester before them. The fundamentals only get you so far.

Unlike those teams, Newcastle can spend but haven't spent. The rest of those teams have one or two major weakness like Brighton with no goalscorers but Newcastle current weakness is just average players performing far better than expected which means if they get better players they will be easily top 4
