Ten Hat is a good coach, not going to write United off because of their early struggles and they got plenty good players

But after the last couple years a Liverpool loss feels just as good as a United loss

I'll take that.

Liverpool were utterly terrible, United started well, but it was all blood and thunder really, as soon as they're next playing without giving every ounce of effort it'll become obvious how ordinary they are.

had a sneaking feeling this could be a bit chaotic/transitional for the big clubs. there's an opportunity for whoever has their shit together to take advantage, 15/16 style

I know I have been on about it for years, but it still staggers me when I watch Arnold having to defend.

I genuinely think if he wasn't at a super club like Liverpool, he would really struggle to cut it as a Premier League fullback. He's absolutely dreadful at everything except long passing and crossing, even his set-pieces are only so-so. Though don't get me wrong, he is elite in those two aspects of his game. He'd get rinsed if he played for Crystal Palace et al, destroyed every single week by every single winger.

I think it's a mistake to think about Alexander-Arnold as a defender. It's not what they ask him to do.

I guess however I rate Cancelo above him because he's less bad at defending when called upon.

TAA isn't asked to defend like a conventional full back but he's clearly got worse over the past couple of seasons.

I didn't realise they had those two 80s totals in a row.

I still think they have near perfection in them again this season, with the squad they have and the 5-sub rule. But hopefully they lose Bernado Silva and aren't as consistently dominant as they can be, and then we get to see that defence of theirs. Now, that's fun to watch!

I don't know, he's bigger and stronger now, so at least he has that over his former self. I just think he's judged now as a (nearly) fully develoled p)ayer rather than the kid he was then. It was obvious to me back then that he was unaware positionally and clueless about the basics to a level that no pro-footballer with a brain could ever be. Nothing's changed and I don't think it will.

I think that argument holds more water for Cancelo (also a diobolically bad defender) and City's system than it does for Arnold. He plays very much like an old fashioned fullbacj, he just happens to play for a team that is freakishly dominant in 90% of the games they play (and he plays his part in that technical and territorial dominance tbf).

Liverpool were so shit today, they had a fair few players missing but from the 1st minute you could see they were not on it. Second half conceding so soon killed off their momentum, just before and after half time they looked like they were starting to dominate. Also Van Dijk has looked very average this season, again today looking very slow to react.

Liverpool having a quiet transfer window so far, Nunez a big signing but a lot of their players are getting close or above 30 now. Expected them to sign another CM at minimum.

Similarly I’m ok with the result. It’s one step closer to keeping the unbeaten season record intact for another season and I’d have been more worried going to OT if their season still needed kick starting. How many times have we been there confident of a result and come away with nothing?

Laughable how VAR only glanced at the second goal for a second. Must be the quickest VAR check yet. For us the other day they spent 5 minutes zooming into a graphic so pixelated it looked 50 years old and drawing millions of lines to try and find a way to rule it out. For United at OT they were never ruling it out, but probably felt they at least had to be seen to be going through the process.
