Pepe's had plenty of chances. He doesn't cut it. It's sad, it sucks, and I wanted it to turn out differently, but he isn't the player we need and Raphinha is a much better profile. Especially considering that we already know what he can do in this league, a lot of upside at 25.

ESR will be sold in a year or so. He’s not good enough - not enough variation to his game and he’s a bit of a turnover merchant

Raphinha wasn’t really in my line of sight like ESR is though.

Anyways Smith Rowe struggled for minutes towards the end of last season. He’s got a real battle on his hands to be heavily involved this season

ESR had a purple patch for scoring and they dried up.

1 in the last 3 months.

Yeah, that's to ESR's credit.

Anyway, just pointing out that it's weird to say that we'll sell a 21-year old because he isn't good enough when the player you want to replace him with wasn't even on anyone's radar at that age. ESR is simply ahead of most players his age.

I think the club has realised that martinelli and ESR are still projects, and saka needs a breather from time to time. with pepe being on the outs, I can see how signing raphinha eases the pressure on the young guys. problem is this guy is being quoted at 50m+ pounds. it just feels asinine to blow a stack like that on a winger when we have a finite amount of money

Yet you don't see an issue with saying he's much better to have than Pepe, the latter don't cut it etc

I don’t find it weird. Each player have different progression paths and traits which may or may not complement our intended style of play.

Walcott was ahead of ESR at his age and never went on to fill his potential ultimately being moved on.

Raphinha is a clutch player. We have none of those at present. We have a powderpuff attack which struggles when the pressure is on.

Don’t forget we have more games this season and there’s the five player rule. Have a feeling Saka’s game may evolve again so he’ll be deployed in different positions. Perhaps even at LCM

I'd be pretty happy having Raphinha here. He's a very good attacker who has adapted to the Premier League. At 25 he is reaching his peak years, unlike our other younger attackers, who are still developing.

I wonder if he could even adapt to playing as the striker upfront in a fluid 3 man attack. Potentially he could, but I'm basing that on watching some compilations and seeing the positions he gets in.

I really don't see Pepe having a future at the club under Arteta. But it will be difficult to shift him. Hopefully he is the last remnant of our previous transfer regime.

This is basically Arteta copying Peps style in the transfer window at Man City, they had Bernardo Silva for the RW but splashed out 50m+ on Mahrez, same for Stering and Grealish for LW, same for Cancelo and Walker at RB and spending 50m on Ake when they have Laporte.

It’s fine if we have the bottomless pit of Walmart money
