Zinchenko is a poor starting midfielder but you have to think we're looking at him to play as a leftback.

On the whole I think we should just avoid players that our Premier League rivals don't mind us having. When have these signings ever worked out for us?

Exactly.

Jesus there is an argument for, but I don’t see Zinchenko being a success here, not when City have the best structure of any top team, and yet he can’t make a place in midfield.

I think he’d be a Monreal type signing, solid backup and decent starter. Shouldn’t be spending a lot on him though just because Arteta used to bring the cones out for Pep.

Personally feel like there may be a little more with Zinchenko than Tielemans. Tielemans has been a solid player for a few years, but....

Zinchenko helps us shore up our midfield, and provide cover for Tierney at LB. He's also younger, and doesn't have many miles on him. Actually seems to me he'd be a decent starter that we can improve upon (via Viera or other signings), while covering Tierney and next year letting us move on from El Neny as CM cover.

Nothing to get really excited by, but I'm not sure Tielemans is either.

Seems like a smart buy for under 35m as long as there's other quality coming in.

Don't get this interest personally never looked good at city and made no impact. If he's costing next to nothing then fine as squad filler but if we have to spend any real money on him then we should just leave it.

City bought him for 1.7m, he is at best a squad utility player for them and have 2 year left on contract right?

Shouldn't be paying more than 20m man.

Haven't seen a price mentioned, but what City paid for him isn't really relevant at all.

Yeah, what is the price we'd be paying...? That has to be a variable to consider here.

Edit: Arseblog were saying asking price was c. £25m. Seems not unreasonable in the current market.

Get him and Tielemans for less than £60m seems like really good business. We'd be instantly a level better than we are now.

I pray everyday that I don't have to see Xhaka start next for us next season. Even then I don't think Zinchenko is better than Xhaka in midfield and he isn't better than Tierney at LB. I was very happy with Jesus, he improves the team, we really need to sign a midfielder that makes us a better side. It was imperative before the Partey situation, even more now. I will be happy if Zinchenko is one of two CMs we are signing.

Both games he played in midfield.

He'd be great on the left side of our midfield. Has a real attacking sensibility as well, I think he'd thrive here.

While it seems lazy to go for Jesus and Zinchenko in the same window, it's also smart. Everyone romanticizes the idea of buying cheap unknown players from other leagues, but when these supergiant clubs collect too many players, some will simply have to move on, and there are opportunities to be had if you're willing to pick through the scraps.

Interesting piece from Tim Stillman on the Arseblog site - speculates we will finalise the Tielemans transfer if we get another left back. His piece postulates that Arteta now wants to shape the left hand side in a similar way to our right hand side. Seems to make sense to an ignorant observer like me.

"For some weeks, it hasn’t been quite clear why the club have not pulled the trigger on the seemingly doable Tielemans deal and my best guess is that his signing would be contingent on a different left-back arriving. That is to say that Arsenal would only bring Tielemans in if they can also recruit a left-back with more of Xhaka’s deep build-up qualities."

He was very good against Scotland.

I'm all for him. He's better than the options we have and the money isn't an issue at his price. He's the right profile of player to be taking from a top club. More Zinchenkos and less Willians. Still young enough, room to improve and no doubt looking to prove himself a starter somewhere. It's not quite an early-Wenger signing, but it's somewhat similar.
