Pretty functional I reckon, and based on how he played in that position during the last Euros. May be lacking a bit of magic at defining moments either end of the pitch. To me, he should be kind of player we have in the squad in place of Xhaka, Lokonga and Elneny, with 2-3 other higher quality midfielders in his way. Guess thats too much to ask for these days.

If he is being signed for midfield, he's more likely the tyoe of player we buy to add to the squad to give Xhaka a breather on the days he needs to be subbed off, or is suspended.

Not a comment on the individual but I have reservations more broadly that so many of the players we seem to looking at from a recruitment perspective are established PL players - doesn't feel the most cost-effective approach.

It's not only extremely inefficient on our budget but also the players who then turn out for us are tainted. I loved our old sides because none of the guys were playing for our rivals before. Now we sign expensive guys domestically and sell or gift them away abroad.

We might regress back into this inferior habit but as things stand is that really a fair reflection? Only senior players in the squad acquired domestically are White, Ramsdale, and Cedric. Not sure they fall under 'tainted' or 'rivals' either. Acquiring each of them was inefficient on our budget though.

I like Zinchenko, but he is not an explosive player, and can be beaten quite easily at times. Good ball player, and can help to retain possession, but in a team without the setup and options on the ball he has at City, he could look at of place.

I would rather we buy Hickey, rather than Zincheko at an inflated price.

These are also the positions we should be looking for potential bargains.

Doesn't bother me if its the right player. Should be easier to identify the right players when they've been playing in the PL too. This idea that we can sign someone like Jesus and expect him to give us more than he gave City is madness though.

Don't even know why we would be seriously linked to a player like Jesus in the first place. Apart from the obvious reasoning that Arteta has worked with and knows him personally. But that doesn't make him the caliber of player we should be trying to sign for our top striker position. Especially after "sacrificing" top four for our rebuild/youth project.

Would love this. He's a brilliant central midfielder. Terrific composure, awareness, and close control. Wasted at left back.

He’d easily be our best CM. Happily take him over our current lot and even the likes of Tielemans who we’ve been linked with.

zinchenko is on pretty low wages from what I've gleaned, so maybe not as bad a use of money as jesus, who will command top tier wages. arteta seems like a safety first guy with slight trust issues. it's unsurprising to me that he's gravitating towards people he's worked with in the past

Zinchenko is more of a natural number 10 tbh. But since he has been converted to LB he is pretty good at CM too

Apparently dominated in midfield v Scotland recently.

TBH at this stage of the team I'm not adverse to getting players who are both EPL ready and 'fit for purpose', in a team that plays the same style and they are also known to our manager. I do not consider them as being cast-offs when the likes of MC & Co are levels above us - like AW said when he sold RVP to MU = we are not in competition with them as we are not at their level.

As I've said before we are generally more than happy with the players signed last summer, so Arteta & Co have earned a measure of trust in that regard of they think the player/s can make us top4.
