The arsecast today gunnerblog was suggesting that this move required Xhaka to move and they didn't have an option currently which would mean this potentially wouldn't go ahead. There was a wirry apparently that any incoming would demote Xhaka so they would want to move him on as part of the move.

Hopefully that's just smoke and mirrors because he is a real limitation on the team.

It does seem like they really don't want to demote Granit, doesn't it? I don't get it. Why the hell not? Everyone else is fair game, but he's untouchable. It's seems like it's not about funds, it's about Xhaka.

Cmon man, it's clear that Arteta loves the guy. That's the explanation. Sometimes coaches become fixated with certain players, in Arteta's case this has happened with Willian and now with Xhaka.

So we can spend 60m on a RW despite having Saka and Pepe, and 50m on White and supposedly 40m on Martinez when we have Gabriel, Saliba and Tierney. Yet when it comes to CM we can't spend 30m on Tielemans until Xhaka has left.

I thought we had that Walmart money and were looking for a deeper squad, with 2 quality players for each position, yet here we are waiting for Xhaka and Elneny to leave before we spend the bare minium on a CM...Go figure.

That's exactly what I mean, Ray. The other deals suggest that funds are not the issue, it's Xhaka himself and Arteta's completely unjustified love for him (and, tbf, every other Arsenal manager he's played under). Guy must be a Svengali.

I've said this many times and was ridiculed as if I was making things up. Arteta loves Xhaka and we didn't keep him last season because the fee wasn't good enough. We were letting anyone and everyone go for free/peanuts whilst spending big as if money wasn't an issue for us. Reality is we just wanted to keep him and actually extending his contract shows it.

By all accounts we were interested in buying a midfielder in the summer. We were also interested in selling Xhaka. There's also rumours that we want to try again to buy in this summer. So imo isn't it possible that we just failed in identifying and finding the right solution? As such, we just couldn't sell Xhaka. Because compared to our other midfiled options, he is the best of the rest by far.

To me it looked like Xhaka was trying to forcr hus way out. He was tbe one flirting with Roma and Mourinho and talking about hiw the rest of the team didn't match his anbition or whatever.

We were apparently in for Locatelli, but that never happened. I don't see how he is the only midfielder we could have targetted that we believed is better than Xhaka that summer. Plenty of talented young midfielders across Europe not necessarily being poached by the likes of Madrid and City.

Not to mention if we only kept Xhaka because we couldn't find anyone available who is better, there was no need to extend his contract especially if we had plenty of money available anyways. The max we were being offered for Xhaka last summer was 10m, and being a year older he'll probably fetch even less this summer.

Hope I'm wrong but he is an Arteta favourite, and is the second most minuted player after Saka since Arteta took over. He plays every game aside from the ones hes is injured for or suspended for. Really hope that's not the case in 2022/2023.

By the way, I do agree he is the best option we currently have in midfield after Partey. And I don't mind Xhaka as much as most. I just find it very hard to believe we couldn't upgrade on him last season. The only reasons I can think of that we did not was either we didn't really want to sell as we rated him, or we were unable to uograde on him because there were financial constraints stopping us from doing so.

What ? So CM will be the last one again, the reason we lost Top 4 will get sorted if we have enough time 😆 😆 . This fucking club, probably want to sell Xhaka and maybe loan Lokonga(what a signing he has been) and only then we will bring in a CM. If Xhaka stays we don't buy a CM.

Yet we’re penny pinching on Tielemans because he has a year left on his contract, when there’s plenty of other better midfielders we can use that mad Walmart money on. Make it make sense.

Refused to let a wantaway Xhaka go, then resigned Elneny, spent €20m on a CM that was out of favour in half a season, now midfield is "too congested".

Sell Xhaka or loan Lokonga. Its not that complicated.

we have one centre mid who's up to scratch, and he's injured half the time. when arteta became manager, the one thing I didn't expect was that he'd have a blind spot for the middle of the park. bizzare

Ornstein is Arteta's boot licker so I completely trust him when he says that CM is not on the top of our order of signings. Incompetence shall be taken for granted, lets just hope that things work in such way that we end up signing Tielemans

I could understand striker being above CM in the list of required incomings but thats it. Maybe they want that sorted and then CM. The other stuff about centre halves and right wingers could just be hot air or early stages compared to CM. At least I hope so.

And people spent the whole of last year telling us we really wanted a CM and really wanted to ship Xhaka out but there's no better players available
