But all transfers are gambles at the end of the day. Tielemans on form is talented, would solve our midfield issues and there's nothing fundamentally lacking in his game. However, it's true that he's been very poor for Leicester this season - along with quite a few other players. So how much of it is down to Leicester having a rubbish system that doesn't bring out the best in their players?
I agree with Jones in that he's not been given a defined role so far in his career but tbf that's one thing Arteta will make sure he has.
Leicester has had the same manager over the past few years when Tielemans was on form. They've had to contend with various injuries - particularly to Ndidi and Madison, but I don't think their system has changed drastically. At least Tielemans' role hasn't. His poor form and inability to impact games has to be owned by the player himself.
And I don't see him solving our midfield issues. He is powder puff in tackles, Huff and puff in tracking back, concedes lots of unnecessary fouls, and has no standout special traits. One or two decent passes every now and then, and an equally infrequent scoring record doesn't appeal to me. Basically a chubbier, dribblier, Xhaka who creates a bit more, but even his creative stats aren't eye popping.
Hard pass.
