If he's decent enough but not good enough to start he hasn't surprised anyone, we already know that.

If Mikel trusted him he wouldn't have started Elneny ahead of him so often. If he's going to surprise someone the first man he needs win over is Arteta.

Huh? I didn't even say anything about his level, I said that if you think he'll surprise people then that should mean you think he'll be starter level because if else then who of us will be surprised?

Sambi reminds me of a more physical Denilson

I certainly hope the best for his development but to gamble on the next season basis his progress is madness.

He's less physical than Denilson and a lot more adventurous or at least capable of it with his passing

I rate Sambi alot. But he will never fulfill his potential here especially when Arteta prefers Elneny over him

He's nothing like Denilson apart from they play in the same position. Sambis passing is incredibly progressive, its probably his biggest strength.

The only reason Elneny started games over Sambi in the run in was because Arteta wanted some experience in the middle of the park with the pressure on (that and Elneny's performances against United & Chelsea). I don't take that to mean that Arteta prefers him to Sambi at all times, it was just horses for courses.

I'm yet to see any consistent progressive passing of him at arsenal unless you've been watching his comps from the belgian league.

looking at it from arteta's perspective- He signed sambi last summer and was willing to give away elneny.

I can't think of one good reason why elneny played over sambi at the end of last season unless he wasn't ready.

We lost 6 of our last 12 league games when we had the Egyptian marvel dictating our play.

That's not to say he won't be ready at some stage in his career but would I waste an entire season on that possibility?

When the going got tough and things were on the line Arteta dropped Sambi for Elneny. There was no tactical horses for courses switch, further to that he handed Elneny a new contract. He'll play Sambi where he thinks he can blood him but he hasn't trusted him. Even off the bench he didn't use him often. And its not like he has a load of quality ahead of him. Its Xhaka and Elneny.

Like I say he can't surprise anyone in those circumstances. If we sign Tielemans really he should go on loan if Xhaka stays too.

And I don't know why you are getting so defensive, this is a very tame football discussion no one is attacking you.

If you couldn't spot it from the games check his per 90s for forward passes and passes in the opposition half.

Not being defensive at all (or feeling attacked), I promise you I was smiling as I typed that last line - I just don't think that Elneny was starting games at the end of the season because Arteta generally prefers him to Sambi, I think he preferred him in the particular situation we were in.

I guess we'll see, but personally, I would be surprised if Elneny started many games in place of Sambi next season.

It doesn't always have to be tactical and it's not always about trust. There are other reasons that are often better reasons for player selection. You know this, though. Just want to get in one dig on Arteta per page at a minimum.

Well people were making excuses for Arteta picking Xhaka too and giving him a new contract, saying it’s to protect his value and sell him on before buying a CM. 4 windows on we’re still waiting for that CM and Xhaka to be sold, when in reality he’ll probably be our starting CM next seasons, Again.

Arteta likes Xhaka and seems to like Elneny too, hence he sees the CM position as somewhere where we can’t buy because it’s overcrowded with quality.

Really cannot even have a normal discussion without someone feeling like its an offensive comment at the manager.
